performance chip?

are performance chips off ebay actually worth it?
do they work or will they stuff your car?
have got pretty much $500 to play with.
getting a exhaust and a hi flow filter, will one of these chips help?

dont get the ones of e-bay please i purchased one n it was shokinggg pretty much threw away 200$ and my car is still unchipped!!! go anywhere appart from ebay if u cnt find a place thats commodore based go to a jap shop dey will always b happy to help ya n point u in da right direction just shop around till you find somethin ur happy with!!!

I would say most of the chips on eBay are crap. beware of to good to be true results.
found this one though and worked extremely well, I used this to upsize my injectors and air-flow sensor. haven't had it tuned on the dyno yet have just been playing myself. hopefully get results up here shortly. booked in a fortnight away. maybe helpfull.

I am under the impression that these chips give a false air flow signal forcing the computer to supply more fuel. Slightly more power for not a lot of money but richer exhaust, putting your cat/s at risk of damage and increasing the odds of a fire and fuel consumption going up.
