Should be just run in nicely engines don't wear out much on modern oils especially big engines that do 1500 revs down the highway

Yea nothing wrong with kms if its been looked after, which looks like it has. If anything it'll be the body sides of things that will be suffering with high kms, i.e brakes suspension rest of it bar engine.

the k's depend how on much the car been looked after, how many times have you been car hunting and seen kow k cars that a piece of **** and smell like someone has taken a dump in them, you can almost bet it never have a service or oil change and those low k's are been racked up with hardly any water in the radiator or oil in the motor,on the other a well looked after car will last for ages and keep going with a lot of k's on

my vx 02 model has 140,000. although this is very low. i would say 200 would be around a good km line. i would say urs has been on the highway a fair bit. engine will last ages man. will last until at least 400,450. no probs. they only wear in at about 100,000 kms

Import some Auto-RX engine cleaner and give it a good cleanout or run some Diesel oil for a few thousand k's and run some Techron petrol additive(one at Safeway/Caltex) to clean the fuel system and top end etc just before changing out the oil.

By that time, usually springs.shocks, belt, water pump etc may need to or may have been replaced. You usually end up replacing them with better items anyway. Good luck !

Don't expect much from a car with high kilometers. You have to expect things are due to fail sooner or later. If no engine then surely, suspension, brakes, tyres, driveline (auto, diff) etc. Have it serviced first if you've just bought it. If it has'nt been serviced reguarly enough (no more than 10,000) run some cleaner through the oil or run diesel oil 15w40 for about 5000km then drain and use normal oil. And for those who go "diesel oil, WTF!", Diesel Engine oil has a higher level of detergents in it then petrol oil. It won't hurt it to run it for 5000-10 000kms
If its not working, you're not hitting it hard enough.

Also, chances are, a car at that age will burn oil. So check your oil weekly.

    Hi Tom

Diesel oil has a very high detergent quality and is used to help flush out the complete oil system immediately prior to an oil change.

Just keep servicing it regularly with 10w60 oil and it all should be sweet.

Might be time for a valve spring change though as they tend to get a bit sloppy.

Also might be worth doing a fuild change on your transmission, while your at it chuck in a stall convertor then give it a good mafless tune, and aan OTR and go run some 12 second passes

Makes the 170k on my 93 Vr look good lol.
No your not paranoid just cautious like me. Its hard to get past if it aint broke dont fix it when you get the urge to change something then hope like hell it works. May be better to do the things that need doing first like those bushes you mentioned.

i've got 178xxx km on the clock of my VS, and aside from a busted auto transmission (same thing happened on two different boxes, 4 years and 80000km apart) everything is fine on it (touch wood).

I've been told by a few different mechanics and car enthusiasts that as long as the car has been serviced regularly the km's shouldnt matter. In fact, i reckon the km's is simply a 'marketing tool' for selling a used car.

when i was doing my apprenticeship trial we had taxi drivers come in with all their cars for services and brake checks, etc. i remember one coming in at 820,000km (yeah 820,000 thats no BS) he had had his gearbox replaced his water pump replaced, suspension redone brakes redone serviced regularly and he's never had a problem with it, another guy bout one in with 630,000km i dont know what he had done but he swore by his car that it was the best he'd ever had and this guy had been a driver for 30 odd years and not just cabs he done limo's and shuttles and everything yet he reckoned the VT was the best one he'd had thats why i got a VT 98 model not a VTII noone says anything bad about them. on the other hand mines got 215,000 on it and still runnin like a charm except my suspensions runnin abit dodge gotta get new shockies. Mate i could honestly say get your bushes fixed then treat your missus or something gather your money than start some mods if you want. Oh and in all these mods a water pump change and service lol just thought i'd share my thorts
