first time post here
just wanted to ask a few questions, and see if i could get some advice
well..
firstly i have this bump or knock noise coming from under my vt when slowing down (it makes the noise whether im using the brake or not), im guessing it might be something loose and it moves slightly forward while slowing down because of its not held on properly if you get what i mean.
the other problem ive come across is the windscreen wipers have scratched an arc into the screen and it looks ugly, im guessing i should replace the windscreen wiper blades so it doesnt do it anymore, is the scratch in the screen fixable or do you have to get a new windscreen?
also when i change gears, then lift my foot off the clutch it seems to jolt the car, the clutch seems alot different to other clutches ive used before, does it need to be replaced or do i need to improve my driving?
thanks for your help
As far as the windscreen goes you can get some glass polish, which I believe is very expensive. I don't know how successful it would be. New windscreens are pretty cheap these days.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
I'm guessing you have a 5 spd manual. I have one too and after learing with two different 4 cyl cars, I found that the Commodore 6 cyl manual required more acceleration when shifting. Simply releasing the clutch when shifting will cause what you described, where with lots of 4 cyl cars, you can get away with it.
The clutch is a dual mass flywheel. They take a bit of getting used to. When you push the clutch in, the revs won't drop immediately. It theoretically makes rev matching a bit easier, but you just need to work on learning the clutch and getting the right revs.
So if you're going 60 in 3rd gear at 2500rpm, it's time for a change. Make sure once you go into 4th gear, the revs are sitting about 2000rpm and even if you violently release the clutch, it'll be smooth. It's all about the revs.
The knock could be anything. First try to find out where it's coming from.
I would be checking the engine mounts. If one has torn apart it can cause both the clunking noise and the jolting that you are feeling when changing gears.
cheers for the help so far.
the knocking sound seems to come from underneath the drivers side or around that area, and i know its not the seat moving forward because it feels under the car
