    Default VT Headgaskets

    Hi Guys,
I'm looking at buying a VT Commodore and would like to know on average these v6 motors pop headgaskets?
I'm sick of replacing headgaskets on Fords.

I haven't owned a Commodore for some years, my last on was a VB, why I went Ford I dunno.

nowhere near as often as the fords. and you dont need to replace the bolts when they do go.

The only time ive heard of people doing a head gasket on an ecotech was from either from it over heating and them continueing to drive, or from people running stupid amounts of boost.
We have done 260,000's and havent had a single problem with the motor, just serviced every 10,000. Great reliable engine.

    Thanks for the feedback.
So I should be safe buying a VT with around 150,000klms on it without having to change a headgasket in the next few months. ?

assuming it hasnt had the shizen flogged out of it, or the gasket isnt almost gone, you should be fine.

Yea there is something about fords and head gaskets. I had a Ford Laser for 1 day.... BANG the head went. Got a new head put on... 2 days later BANG the head went again. Just ended up throwing the car away, POS ford. The alloy head straight six's are aweful with head gaskets, ive heard stories of people only just getting into the red of the temp gauge and the head went.

In the VT's im sure Head Gasket technology had improved heaps over the course of the V6. Are the ecotec's alloy or cast iron heads?

none of the commodore v6s ever really had a problem with head gaskets. the ecotec heads are still cast iron same as pre ecotec.

the only thing that goes on them that looks like its the head gasket problem is the inlet manifold gaskets but thast a really easy fix....other then that i only here of them going if (as said) u have massive ammouts of boost and flog the crap outta it causeing it to overheat.

even so me VN V6 overheated...well it was at red for a bit lol and it never caused me any problems and it had 350 000 on teh clock.......still running aswell as now me mate has it:P

fords are ****house when it comes to head gaskets.....why they never fixed teh problem i will never know

    Thanks for the info
I was undecided as to buy an AU Fairmont or a VT Commodore but as someone said the VT has cast iron heads I think I'll be leaning towards the VT.

I know what you mean .... I owned a 5.0L HQ Statesman a few years back and done the inlet manifold, the sump had about a bucketful of water mixed in with the oil.
