Well i have a VX wagon and there is this knocking, banging, flapping noise that comes from the rear of the car. I hear the noise mostly when i take my foot off the gas and when im slowing down. I have been told that its not the diff or the suspension. Also i dont seem to start hearing the noise untill i get above say 40-50 klms. If anyone could help me out with what they think it could be that would be appreciated . Cheers
Hiya.
Like a lot of things, the most simple answer is usually the right one. Have you checked your rear tyres to make sure you don't have a stone or nail or screw or something stuck in the tread or a flat spot? Also have you had the rear brakes checked? And not meaning to sound stupid or condescending, but you're not driving on the cats eyes on the road are you? When I worked at an auto centre, we actually had this happen a few times, symptoms you're describing and turned out they were constantly driving on the cats eyes!
Like longguy says i would be looking at rear tyres first, even if you cant spot a prob with them maybe get someone to follow you at above 50kph and see if they can spot anything from behind (like tyre out of round, tread flapping) just a thought.
i had this problem in a toyota corolla it i had the rear sway bars replaced..... then i found that the tyre had bald spotted causing the noise

thanks for the suggestions i had new tyres put on about 4 months ago and since then the noise has started i think lol. I will check out the tyres cheers
if that doesn't work then i would talk to the people where you had your tyres done because that noise shouldn't happen

tyres could be falling apart from the inside. get them checked
Hi Danielle,
If your tyres are only 4 months old and this problem is because of a manufacturing fault on the tyres, make sure you tell the tyre guy that you want to make a claim on the faulty tyres. That will ensure you get a good discount on the replacements and don't pay full price, as the dealer can claim back from the manufacturer.
It's not a back firing noise from the exhaust is it?
You haven't riced your commy have you?
id definitely check the four numbers on your tires in a sort of oval shape, the last 2numbers is the last 2digits of the year the tire was made, definitely seen dodgy tires being sold that are about 8years old.
Same noise happened to me once, it turned out to be a broken steel belt in the tyre.
