Hi all, i drive along the freeway everyday to and from work at 100km per hour. Now each trip is around 20 odd K's and for the majority of this the car hums along in 4th gear revving at around 2000rpm ok. I guess 2/3rds of the way into the trip the car kicks back into 3rd and revs to 3000rpm and wont change back to 4th no matter what. I did a recent trip in Tassie and most of it was in 3rd gear, huge fuel bill. Any ideas? Cheers, Daz.
G'day Dazza,
I've got EXACTLY the same problem.
If i find anything on here i'll let you know!
(Nice to know i'm not the only one!)
I'm thinking of going to the auto trans place so i will post the diagnosis. It's probably not something we could fix anyway!
Cheers.
Guys I dunno about the Commodore but if that happens on a Ford it's stuck in 'Limp Home Mode' .. not sure if Commodores have LHM though.
Maybe this will help? ... i haven't had a chance to try it yet but i'll let you know.
VT Intermittent Transmission Problem
Cheers will try it, can't hurt.
Just a finishing comment to this so as anyone searching has an answer to the same issue. "The tranny's cactus", took it a transmission specialist today and there where 4 error codes the codes all meant khaput.
Daz.
ive got same sorta problem but mine will only go as high as 3k rpm and wont knock back gears can put foot flat and it will only jump 1k to 1.5k rpm
It was the torque converter slipping. Just went and bough a S/H trans that had done 150,000 k's, half the k's of the old one, for $110. Goes great now.
