Hi justcommodores,
I was wondering what sort of fuel economy you get from a vx commodore with a 5speed. i consulted redbook, but the fuel economy sounds optimistic for a larger car like a commodore. the reason i am asking is that i figured that the fuel economy claimed by Holden is the result of conservative driving and i dont drive conservatively (someone else pays for the fuel of my current vehicle)
P.S i'm sure it will be an improvement on the van. i get 2-400 km out of an 80l tank
i do alot of city driving, ive got a vts2 r8 with the only mod being a larger exhaust, std everything else. i do between 18 and 22 L/100km
18 if i drive conservative with a few motorway runs, 22 if its all stop and start traffic and a few hits here and there.
Hey mate
Ive got a VY 5 speed, i get anywhere between 550 - 800 out of a tank its a 70L tank.
550 been city and 800 been country/highway
My VT V6 auto gets generally around 12.5 Liters per 100K's city granny driving.
i drive vx 5 speed sedan and get just about 600km on full, btw the fuel tank is on vx sedans are 75l, maybe sometime is wrong with your car or you love revving the damn out of it
Possibly the city figures you have read are not achieved by many. If your average distance between stops and starts in "city" driving is less than a km and you accelerate hard between them, then fuel consumption will rise way above the 10L/100km "city" figure and more like 15-16L/100km would be returned.
The highway figures, 6-7L/100km should be fairly easily achievable unless at much higher speeds than 110km/h.
it seems i have confused people. the vehicle i currently drive isnt a commodore, but a 1996 volkswagen transporter. i am in the market for a vx commodore and are currently working out running costs.
i guess it depends wat ur goin 2 use the car 4 mainly then. If its mainly highway driving an exhaust and extractors and CAI benifits alot, (im gettin it chipped soon which will help also) as since i put them on im now hittin the 900kms mark out of a tank easy but if u do mainly city driving keep it stock with mayb only a CAI. I was gettin 600-650kms a tank then but dropped wen i did those mods and now reach the 550kms. Of corse mine is auto bein manual u should use less fuel but also a well maintained car helps.

like they said, you should consider if you are intending to do more city or long range driving. my VX wagon is pretty stock. (K&N Filter, Iridium plugs, coil over leads, etc, running synthetic oils), but I can still easily get over 900Km in long range driving (usually from home (stanthorpe) to the Sunshine coast and back with more than a weeks driving petrol left in the tank, and this obviously includes 2 trips over the range, sometimes towing a quite heavy trailer, but always fully loaded, perhaps 400Kg cargo in vehicle.
Sure beats the old white van. well if your stuff will fit anyway.![]()
I'm currently getting 12-14l/100 from an auto S2 VT V6 local driving. The 5-10min short trips dont help economy much - neither does the 2min warm up. But i still get a good figure.

When I had a VT V6 I'd get 13.5 consistently with the auto box in Sydney peak hour traffic. When I converted it to manual it dropped to 12.5.
