Default 98 manual VT vs auto 99 AU falcon??

what would win if drivers had equal skill??

I have the VT, it's all stock except a 3" straight through exhaust and a KnN air filter panel.

    AU falcon is all stock.

BTW! What are the weights of the 98 VT manual commodore and the auto 99 AU falcon?

    cheers guys,
    joe

Well depending on what your using them for in a legal drag my basically stock 97 VT was quicker then a 2002 SR AU Falcon.

    ah ok.
yeah my friend is quite competitive...and we don't drag or race really since we are on our red P's in QLD lol. And also we are both admittedly n00bs without much experience.
but yeah, he is a strong believer in his bigger motor means more torque means faster car theory lol.

i looked up the weights and the VT is like 1522kg and the AU is like 1565kg of something...would that make much different? it shouldn't aye.

I'd sit on the side of the road and watch the ugliest car in Australian history drive past. Then blow up in shame.
Doesn't matter what type of race the falcon will always catch up the higher the speeds get. Taller gears more torque they will come back. So keep it short.

id say the VT would win.

Had a little run from the lights with an EL XR6 manual today in my vt 6 manual and i had him by about one car length when i got to 100. my vt has a catback and from the sounds of it so did this EL

VT is a 3.8 liter V6 and the AU is a 4.0 liter straight 6.

Due to being a V6, the VT has much more torque than an AU. The AU may have a slightly higher top speed though. I've driven AUs and they're slugs compared to my VX

Erm, sorry but the Ford I6 has more torque and power than the Ecotec.

Ford make better 6's, Holden make better 8's, that's pretty much it.

That said the AU is a ugly pos, the transmissions are made of lego and the interior is ****e.

the ford 6 has a ****load more toque! like 50nm....
only thing that makes them feel slow is there tall 1st gear..

BUT! you's are both n00bs? i say he will win if you cant launch then your screwed and they au's go alright for what they are

and i agree about the fords making better 6's.....

I can't tell the difference between the au and tornarse lol..

I had a little fun the other night. Sat at the lights and watched a VT S and couldn't work out the car giving him some curry from the lights might have been a magna ?. But anyway i was about 60% throttle behind watching them take off from the lights giggling when a EL falcon was next to me and i could hear he was giving it heaps lol he was only passing me about 1cm per sec.. Planted it and left him. The EF was fast what went wrong with the EL. Guy in a BA wasn't impressed.

I have a 97 Falcon GLi and a 98 VT SII Berlina, both slush boxes
the Ford is easily quicker, softer riding
The Berlina has a lot better handling and tractive control

I prefer the Berlina to drive, the Ford just feels unsafe sometimes when road conditions get ugly or higher road speeds are commonplace.

3" exhaust on stock v6 will get you nowhere haha

Tell him on a cold winters night about 3am go onto a back highway with 4 lanes. No cars coming speed up to limit first there wins.

well this guy is always at me about his bigger motor and having heaps more torque. He probly would beat me in a drag anyhow coz auto's are so much easier, all you gotta do is take off good and just gun it from then hahaha.

I absolutly PWNTED my friend in his 94 ford ute at the lights, we made it safe since it was only in a 60km/h zone by speeding up to the limit and no burnouts (rofl)...but he kept on doing burnouts anyhow, using the excuse that he had no weight in the back and too much torque (which might be true)

its funny how people make bullshit accusations like.. quote ( i blew past the xr6 with my stock vt) wtf good luck m8..someone else said they walked on a 02 falcon with a vt i think..? once again good luck.. not to be biased the commo and falcon are both great cars..but a near stock vt has no chance against an xr6..my mate owns a stock vt manual, i drive an EF futura manual with extractors and 2.5 inch cat..i can easily pull a car length or 2 on him at the lights before 80 or so and theres only 7kw difference between the xr6 and the gli falcon.. xr6 being 164kw with 365nm a vy makes 152kw and about 325nm so dont talk shit about how your stock vt can shit on an EF-AU xr6..sorry but it cant.. thankyou to all of you who know wat your talking about..

    Holden Ecotec
    Maximum power: 147 kW @ 5200 RPM (197 hp)
    Maximum torque: 304 Nm @ 3600 RPM

    Ford Futura
    # 157kW @ 4900 rpm.(211 hp)
    # 357Nm @ 3000 rpm.

Never really liked fords always been a Holden bloke myself but the difference is that
a FORD has a DOCH 4.0 litre inline six cylinder. 39 kw to the litre
a HOLDEN 3.8 Litre V6. 38.6 KW to the Litre
    Not much difference

but what gives the ford that little bit more advantage is it hits its peak Torque and Power at a lower RPM. and that extra .2 litres that you can cram into the engine ....

but the main key comes down to the driver.......
