Default doesnt make sense noise limits

i got pulled over by cops for speeding they booked me and put noise limit on my vt clubbie . it was 95 db. they said it had to be under 90db at 4200 rpm which they measured at the required 1/2 metre away from tip of exhaust . [this is in queensland and the coppers pulled out a book with all the required readings for the cars .] they said 90db ....but what reallly gets me is my hsv is a auto and for me to get to 4200 rpm in any gear to reach that 90db id be well and trully over speed limit in any gear . so now i have 2mths to fix and take to transport dept to check .coppers being a pain inthe .....

does anyone know a muffler exhaust shop northside brisbane that has a db reading meter icould go to

doesnt matter what speed you would be doing at that RPM.
you may want to do a bit of research about the subject too.
i was under the impression that in the era your car was made, the legal db was a fraction higher than 90db.
for new cars as of last year (i think) it was reduced to 90db.
only cars manufactured after that date have to comply.
yours being built earlier will have to comply to whatever the legal requirements were in that time.
    check it out.

if thats what the book said and you willing to take their word for it then theres nothing you can do about it.
your just going to have to make the car quieter by 5db.
sucks, but you can always change it back once its passed again.

    The old reading was 94db.

I wasn't aware that old laws applied, considering a factory standard exhaust would be well within the limits.

Has anyone ever tried one of these?
    XForce - Performance Exhaust Systems

I hear they are common in the ricer world for keeping the car quiet when you want it to be.

What's the big deal? If you put a louder exhaust on it then you know you take a chance you might get done for it. I like loud cars but ask someone who has had a baby, when you get a chance to get some sleep it's good if you don't get someone burning down the street with their loud car waking then up! What's 5db anyway, does it make much difference to the look of your car or even the way it goes?

If it does bother you thou then just stick some chicken wire in your exhaust when you go to get the defect off it. Your car will be quieter but the wire will burn out pretty soon after and then you can keep going until next time you get done.

    You're kidding right?
Maybe I should just stab you and take your car and wallet, because it benefits me and I couldn't give a crap about you. Why should I be blamed for your choice to walk down the wrong alley, or for you not wearing a stab-vest

Wow, thats the country we live in. Stabbing someone and stealing their wallet is on par with a loud exhaust!

Maybe i should move to America, oh wait, i'm already there!

Moot point tho, i don't put myself in situations down dark alleys (where you'd frequent!)

My comment was in reference to you saying that we should all just worry about ourselves, but feel free to take it in whatever way works best for you.

I havn't left, America is almost like Australia.

People should worry about themselves, stabbing someone is obviously bringing someone else into the situation

How is me wanting an exhaust anymore selfish than said breeders not wanting me to have it? Its exactly the same, except one is taking away freedom! If they want sleep, move to the country, live in the city (as i do) put up with the noise

So you would say the same for late night parties, power tools etc?
The issue I have isn't with taking away the freedom to do something, it is with the people who lack the common courtesy to respect other peoples wishes.

But this is all way off topic, so this is my last response.

To the OP, it seems like you have been legitimatly (sp?) done for being too loud. Seems like most people tend to whack a standard exhaust on, get it cleared, stick the loud one back on, and get done again later on.
It wouldn't hurt to find one that you still like (loud, good note etc), but comes in under the legal limit. 90dB (or whatever it is) should be plenty loud enough

I'm glad we agree. They should have the common courtesy to respect my wishes to have a loud exhaust!

While were on noise, the law is no excessive noise before 10am (talking on a premises, not driving). I work nights. 10am is when i sleep. Should i get the laws changed so theres no noise allowed at these times? And whip out the the grinder for what is my prime time at 4am waking the neighbourhood?

Stealthy sometimes you say the most pathetic things, so we are to blame for having kids? Well if people didn't then you wouldn't be here to complain about your exhaust not being loud enough. How would you like it if your neighbour decided to start the lawn mower every night at 2 in the morning while your trying to catch up on sleep you have missed out on. Why can't he? is this the world we live in when a man cant use his lawn mower at 2 in the morning? What kind of world is this?

But seriously you know the law whether you agree with it or not, you break it then don't go crying about it. Remember there is more people than just you in this world and if we all had your attitude of doing what we want when we'd want to then what do you think the outcome would be?

Might start taking your advice thou. If your in my way when I'm driving to work in the mornings I'll just ram you out the way alright. Gonna start thinking about myself from now on!!!

Yes your to blame! I didn't **** your wife and get her pregnant! Your just like the people who buy a house on a main road, then complain about the traffic driving past. If you don't like noise, move somewhere else, or dont have kids so you can get a pleasant nights sleep.

Just like dip**** up there, you've resorted to being a criminal to get what you want. Do you ram harleys off the road because their loud? Didn't think so. Stop posting **** to cause an argument that doesn't exist.

No, your friend can't start his lawnmower up at 2am, and personally i couldn't give a rats arse, i'd be at work There is laws for that, and thats what the majority of people have as their sleep time. I've chosen to work nights, so i have to deal with the noise other people make. Just as if you CHOOSE to have kids, you have to deal with sleepless nights. Blaming a car is hardly warranted

My neighbours dog barks seems to bark at even the slightest movement, it doesn't effect me, but i'm sure the other neighbours do care.

Can't fault stealthy here, we had people down the road come and tell us to keep the noise down at 3pm because their kid was sleeping. F**k that, why should i have to tippy toe around at that sort of time because someones kid 3 doors down is a light sleeper.

More the point the OP doesnt sound like he knew the law, sounds like the updated laws have just caught out an old car. So either find out the law for when your car was built and argue that, or silence it. Sounds like your only 2 choices.

PS anyone else reminded by the earlier baby comments of the pregnant woman in some bumpkin town who was in the news paper worried about traffic for her unborn whilst holding a ciggie in her hand?

Stealthy you make me laugh with some of that dribble you come up with. I bought a house on a quiet street mate not a main road so I don't have to put up with that crap and no I don't go do crap like you say but you sound like you go do something you know is not legal then cry about getting done for it, sounds like stupidity to me. You need to look at some of the crap you have posted to see who tries to start the arguments here. There's nothing wrong with difference of opinions but the way you have a go at anyone who doesn't do things like you do is a bit old!

What's wrong with being criminal now, didn't you say to only worry about ourselves? Make up your mind. Oh and for doing my wife god that was really funny, I doubt firstly any girl would be interested in a selfish person as yourself and secondly you'd be too worried about how loud your car is to even know what to do!

The point is, why should someone else have to alter what they do to please someone else? Want kids, deal with no sleep. You did what the complaining people should have done, buy a house on a street with no traffic.

I'm not sure what your on about legality, i havn't done anything, nor cryed about anything.....

Um, its against the law....hence why you'd be a criminal. Stabbing someone or rear ending them deliberately is warranted for someone with a loud exhaust.......I'm amazed your wife is still with you if you drive live that. Surely you've written off 1000 cars by now!
Lol'ing at the attempted personal insults. Single by choice

Lets get together everyone, when we see someone with a loud far cannon, rip them out of their car and stab them. Its legal now!
