Your switch would be highly likely. I have only changed on on my falcon but it would be connected to your brake pedal under the dash. The one for my falc was only $25 so a commie one shouldn't be that much more.

Just have a close look at your brake bedal and press it. You should see where the switch is from there. You should probaly have a gregory's to replace it though.

vt-vx series (wh in your case) have the worst record of tail light f**k ups. my tail lights always go out its a pain in the ass. for both of your brake lights to go out is really weird. usually just one of mine goes out.
i just pull the tail lights out and wiggle the cluster a bit and it comes back on. iv taped my clusters really tight so it doesn't do it as often but still does once in a while.

Im not sure if this is what your problem is but worth a try i guess

slightly off topic, but if your brakelights were out and somebody rear ends you. who would be at fault (assuming no other factors involved like booze/speed)

The car behind. I use the engine to slow down, doesn't mean cars can slam into me......

walesy, wouldn't be your fault, there's a reason for the 2 second behind law/rule! Other guy hits you and it's their fault because they were travelling too close. Usually when it's a rear end it's always the guy behind that's at fault. However there are occurances where you could have spun around and been unlucky to get hit in the rear by someone. In which case that's fun for the insruance companies.
