Warning light help (car wasn't sold with a manual)

Basically the light that came on is under the car temp on a single panel display, it looks like Canberra with a lightning bolt in it under the gauge that tells you the temperature.

Came on while idling with rear demister on.

Car seems to be idling strangely too, sits there idling normal then it feels like a massive surge where there's a strong vibration and the engine feels like its struggling.

Suggestions?

Everything else seems to be running fine, its just this thats the issue. And the dash light, of which i still have no idea which one it is, only has come on once today when i was in a drive through.

Its the engine with the lightning bolt in it, and my car is doing a surge when it idles. So any suggestions on what it could be?

engine with lightning bolt is the check engine light (CEL)
it means there is a problem that needs to be checked, search for checking fault codes
