Default Custom CAI - VT V6.

    Hi Guys,

Relatively new to the Forum, and let me say it seems a great community.

Anyway I have a question relating to the intake of my V6 VT commodore.

There are quite a few different intakes you can choose for the VT commodore, and allot of debate to go with it. Which has got me thinking to make my own, I have seen the “ Two hole mod” for the commodore, but I am thinking to expand on that a little by using a POD filter.

I am thinking of using the same style intake system as the Race flow, Then using intake pipe out of the side of the cold air box, running down under the radiator(same guidelines as the “two hole mod”.

So my question is what do some of you guys think of the idea? Because it is a POD style
System would it defeat the purpose of the second hole intake pipe?
    Any feedback is greatly appreciated,

    Cheers!

    Hey mate,

unless your going to do some serious engine work then the standard vt v6 cold air intake does the job very well. Perhaps a High Flow filter. But the standard CAI does a great job
no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone

I found that simply removing the factory intake & using a K&N filter is all that's needed, unless you want to ram air into the intake (which is useless if you don't run a higher-spec setup).
And no, temperature is not an issue. Using a pod filter is not really advantageous at all and using one in conjunction with a 2-hole mod would seem a little unnecessary

[EDIT] My bad I read it to quick, skipped a word.

    Thanks for feedback so far.

I have the YT CAI mod - just cut the hole in the side of the airbox and pipe comes out under radiator. I have also put in a K&N air filter in and seems to be working quite well.

Used a 95 or 102mm Hole Drill (can't actually remember which one now!) - you can get them at Hardware shops - allows for the ~100mm pipe and a little extra for the metal bracket which you attach the pipe to it. I think it tells you in the instructions how big you need to cut the hole.

I had access to a bench press drill and simply marked out the hole, clamped it and drilled out the hole then sanded it to clean it up after.

I actually went and got a 2nd hand airbox from wreckers when I cut the hole just in case I made a mistake

Looking at that yella terra intake, Has it got any form of filter at the bottom to prevent leaves and other foreign objects going strait into the box?

Does the yella terra intake give a better sound at all?

So is the YT CAI the same as the 2 hole mod which gets air from underneath the front spoiler?

Yep. I dont know if it's bigger or made of something that might not heat up like other pipes.

No it doesn't - but I've had mine for about 6 months and haven't had anything sucked into airbox as yet. I suppose you could put a grate in if you wanted though....

It is similar to the PVC pipe mod from somewhere on the forum here but the rubber hose YT use is a lot thicker and doesn't get very hot so therefore keeping the air cooler for the engine
