dont get a manual getrag box. That is all. Good cars **** camber issues tho but easy fix if you lower it.

my friend owns one, they tend to need a few things replaced by 130,000km, but they are quite a nice car to drive/ ride in.

Excellent cars, try to get an acclaim as opposed to a standard commodore, also try to get a series one rather then a series II, we've owned several versions of each model and I can tell you it's just something about the series one that is just so much better, yea it's a slightly heavier car but the build quality is just better IMO.

VX is something like 150 kw stock, incredible handling, abs, how can you go wrong. they do get expensive to service as the km increase. sorry to disagree mainpath, but I believe the series 2 is much better, camber issue fixed, deep pan transmission fixed auto overheating probs. our VX2 just hit 150,000km only expensive parts so far were O2 sensors $350 tyres $650 and 2nd new battery $150ea

Vx is a good realiable car, fairly easy to work on, parts are easy to come by, much safer then VL, try to get series 2, if your not going to mod it, it's a good daily driver, attempt to get berlina or calais as they had dual air bags, plus extras. It won't be as powerful as the VL but hey you only wanted a family car right??

Should be able to pick up a good condition one for under 9K with low Km's and service history, cheaper even if you get high KM's one or executive model.

I have had my vt for over 3 years....if I could go back I would still have bought it.....the most comfy cars and very safe IMO....
<I smashed the front end at high speed and came out without a scratch- the other guy had a ford...the airbag didnt even work!>

yea i heard about that, yea i guess everyone likes what they like , but umm yea they made the series II lighter to save fuel didn't they ?
Mums Bf ones a series II atm and they did *just* over 1000k on a single full tank on normal unleaded, I have no idea how he does it, but series II does have excellent fuel economy.

and the body kit just looks good i hate seeing v6s with clubsport bodys
it makes ppl in hondas think that there car is faster than it really is
and they have the wider tyres standrd and dam that person only paid $650 for tires was that all 4 ?? dam i must be buying the wrong tires mine cost that much each

Control-Link IRS features extra link arms which assist in keeping the car precisely on track over bumps and during strong acceleration, deceleration or braking. Its benefits are particularly noticeable in challenging cornering situations. By improving rear grip and keeping the vehicle on a tighter line, Control-Link IRS assists drivers to negotiate corners and bends more confidently. The suspension packages across the Series II Statesman and Caprice model range have been totally re-tuned to complement the rear suspension changes, further enhancing stability and ride comfort. Revised steel belt tyre construction also contributes to a sharper and more accurate steering feel.

All Series II models are equipped with new stalk controls for indicator, wiper and cruise control functions. The cruise control is operated using a more intuitive twist switch mechanism instead of the previous button system. The Commodore SS introduces the option of striking coloured leather interior trim, specifically designed to complement exteriors finished in Red Hot and the brilliant new Hyper yellow. The Commodore SS customised colour theme extends to instrument clusters, metallised console fascias and seat trims. Calais buyers may also choose new colour-keyed leather trim - in Cobalt, Light Shale and Dark Red - to harmonise with and complement exterior colours. The Calais centre console and instrument fascia are finished in metallic silver. Stylish black leather trim also joins the option list for Commodore S, SS and Calais. Commodore Executive and Acclaim feature new micro-check patterned trim on the head restraints and seat bolsters. With the introduction of the Series II model range, grey-toned interiors are now finished in the darker shade of Anthracite. Berlina and Calais feature distinctive new grille inserts with diagonal crosshatching and new rear badges; Calais headlamps are outlined with sporty black bezels; Commodore Executive and Acclaim have revised grille treatments and new wheel covers.
    Always go the series 2!

Get a series 2 VX if you can, it has the rear susp problem fixed with the control link. My previous commodore was a VX series 2, and I loved it. No problems at all with 150K. As a family car, go for the Acclaim. It has all the safety features eg. 4 airbags, traction control etc.
