well I need a new motor for my VT V6 posted in the another thread, but now im juggling what i should get a recon motor fitted for $3686 12 moth warranty or 2nd hand engine that has been on gas for 1 month fitted $2244 3 month warranty or a super6 fitted for approx $3000. not sure really what I'm after id like power as would most other guys in the forum, rather pay $2244 but don't want to have the car break down in 3 months time with no warranty and i want a recon motor as i no its been reconditioned. What is everyone else opinions?
shop around mate those prices are way over the top
Umm no theyre not only the secondhand one is a little too expensive. Obviously you dont really have a clue to the amount of money involved in recoing a motor not to mention he'll be paying close to a $1000 in labour. The l67 is a little to cheap fitted for my liking but if its 3000 go that option My opinion get the motor and fit it yourself you'll save a lot of money if you got the tools and equipment and if you think you can do it yourself. Best thing about the reco motor is the warranty it 1 year unlimited k's. If your paying someone else to fit it you got peace of mind that if it stuffs up they'll fix instead of yourself.

with going to l67... its alot more than you think just dropping in an engine - read this www.l67torque.com • Login
depends how many kms the super 6 has done ? and as thats fitted does that mean its going to be a runner after all that then it mite be worth it if its low kms. cause boost is more than a friend its a **** load of fun also. but then again why not just looked for a written of manual car v6 or v8 and swap everything over mite cost more still but way more fun again
So its approx $3000 for everything? you'll then need to factor in a some money to fit and wire up properly unless of coarse you plan on doing it yourself

I am also thinking of getting a reconditioned motor fitted to my 98 VT Exec 290000 k's, the reason for this is it has overheated a couple of times and, once i probably cooked it a little and the coolant/motor smells of that dirty hot water smell. I've had it flushed and checked and new radiator, water pump etc, everything i can think off. It still runs ok, smooth, economy's ok, ummmmm no water in the heads/oil, still has a bit off pull for a wagon, does get up and go ok i guess. But i have lost that reliability feeling if you know what i mean, wouldn't take her on a road trip.
Anyway to my question, given the past overheating problems could i just get away with getting the top end done or should i just swap her over? Should i just take it to mechanic and get their opinion?
Thanks in advance.
Hey mate i'm not sure whats involved with that could be as simple as swapping engine looms and ecu. I really never done this conversion or know anyone personally who has. Maybe ask on that other car forum as they'd know more in regards to this. I think if tyou going to fork out the cash the super 6 is the way to go
My opinion is take it to a raidator joint and or mechanics and get them to do a cooling system pressure test and a compression test or prefferably a leak down test. This'll let you know if you've done any damage to it. Best thing about v6's is they're a cast iron motor much better than having an alloy motor or alloy head when it comes to overheating. They are less prone to damage form this sort of thing. My mate on new year's just done 700k's (went camping) with a blown headgasket (between cylinders) on holden 6 changed gasket and she's good as gold tough motors they are
