    Default VT Engine Numbers ?

Hey guys, how's it going ?

I'm in the middle of putting a commodore V6 into my Hilux 4x4 and need alittle help clarifying what model engine I have. I was under the inpression that it was a VT SII, but the shop that mounted it told me it's a VR SII. I was hoping I could tell with the engine number, but i'm not sure i've got the right one. underneath on the left hand side I got 24506XXX below it's got 3800 Series II.

Can anyone help me out ?

    cheers,
    James.

The ecotec engine was introduced in 1995 in the VS. If it's not and ecotec then I would assume it is from a VR or a VS series 1 at the latest.

Does it have an engine cover or does it have 3800 in big letters on the intake manifold?

Another way to tell is if the alternator is on the driver's side, it's an ecotec and if it is in the middle, it's not. But since it has an engine cover it would be an ecotec.

VR engine numbers range from approx 7/93 VH1326534 to 3/95 VH1471797
VT range approx 7/97 VH695688 to 3/99 VH862175 or there abouts

    G'day

Well I just spent a heap of time trying to find the engine number on several motors without any luck. I even checked out several bare blocks without luck.
    I did see a 6 and maybe a 4 but nothing else.
    Am I missing something?
