    Default ignition barrel

    Hi the barrel on my vt just started to spin still works but i have to turn it back every time i start it or the starter motor stayes on i got i price from holden for $65 for a new barrel and they say i will have to get it re coded i cant see how this is true as it is the same key and it is only the center barrel not the contacts were the key touches if ther is any body who has had the same prob can you tell me if you hadto get the barrel keyed to the oridginal key and re coded any input would be great as i am a bit tight on funds after chrissy like all of us and no ot at work

    I had the same problem and it was the ignition switch. The switch has the spring which makes it return, not the barrel.

    THANKS HEAPS told holden my prob they said i needed a barrel are they ez to change diy and how much for a new switch

    The switch cost me $27.10 about 2 years ago. Following the instructions in my Gregory's workshop manual, installing it was easy. I recommend you buy one if you plan on doing your own repairs. Pick one up for around $40.
