Isn't there legal implications with removing mufflers from cars? Doesn't that breach the RDA?

it will sound a little better, it shouldnt be too loud to make it illegal as long as the tailpipe comes out the back
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!

I took the rear muffler out the back of my VT and replaced it with 2.5" piping and a tip.

    Sounds good and crackly.

Yeah mines got that too. it 'pops' when you take your foot off the accelerator and let the revs slowly drop. Because all the noise comes from the tail end of your car, that drone you get from having a louder muffler isn't as bad as having a full system because its just at the back and won't vibrate through the cabin as much.
Also, if the cops defect you for it, just get a rear muffler from the wreckers, cheap as. That's what I plan on doing. I heard they can't look under your car (unless they are just being pricks). Police have taken a look at my car before and didn't pick it out, nor the split in one of my tyres which would probably make my car unroadworthy.

I remember my mate got straight 2.5" pipe from his muffler to the ass end on his vs, well it was a stock system and it sounded like crap

Worst exhaust I've heard on a commodore, droned like anything and sounded like a wet fart down low but up high it sounded alright....
So pretty much just buy a full exhaust, but if your exhaust is aftermarket then get a straight pipe on the ass end, sounds heaps better

    That's my contribution :P

Personally, I don't like the sound.
I was merely stating what an exhaust shop would do it for.
There are a lot of V6 commodores around with this done, I guess if you're a bit thin in the wallet, then it's the mod for you.

I took mine off a while back. Roughly 2 hours later i put it back on - mainly because my father took my socket set for an hour. Cabin noise is painful, i developed quite a headache after an hour. Generally it doesn't sound too nice out of the cabin either - notice how almost every oldish v6 commodore drones past you?

iv got a VT 3.8 manual..
    extractors with 2..5" thru
    standard cat
middle muffler and a hotdog on the rear..
would i get a better note if i put the hotdog in the middle and jsut have a pipe running from that?
or jsut take out the hotdog from the bakk and have a pipe running straight from the centre muffler..
i dont wanna drone but i want a bit more dB
    cheers

would certainly be louder with only a hotdog in place of the centre muffler.
There's only one way to find out!
