Hey guys need help with my ute.. it had a rough idle (only) so i went and got new plugs (ngk) and plug leads (topgun) changed them over 3 at a time (could be the reason) why when putting the foot down. it splatters and then takes off like a sling shot. idles better then ever but how could this be worse then when i started?
Can anyone tell me the spark plug lead order like... left side 2,4,6 right side 1,3,5 from the front to back. so i can double check that it is right.
(2001 VU series 2 ute)
Thanks.
As follows
6 --- 5
4 --- 3
2 --- 1
coil pack
6,3 2,5 4,1
Hope that makes sense![]()
Thanks mate, i have checked that the leads are in the correct order now but now i need a good explanation on why the engine had a ruff idle and had clean fast acceleration now after changing the spark plugs and leads now has a clean idle and an interrupted (dirty) acceleration.
Mate, as always it could be a few things; if not more
I know it souds stupid, but make sure your leads have "clicked in" at both ends.
your coil packs could be ratshit as well, or maybe just one of them. this may have been your problem to begin with and changing the leads and plugs may merely have changed the appearance of the problem. That has happened to me before, and i did exactly what you did, with similar results only to find it was a coil pack.
Hope this helps.
stupid question here, are all the even numbers on the drivers side and the odd on the passengers?
briefly, yes
I've got the same problem mate, how'd you fix it???
Holden: HOLD ON!
i had the same problem, get a new coil pack, problem solved.
the coil pack is fragile, don't be rough with it.
Hey having a similar problem I changed the plugs coils pack cam angle and crank angle sensor and computer and it's idling rough missing and hates taking off any sugestions
the reason for the twin coil pack is for each compensating cylinder, when one cylinder is at TDC sparking (9-10volts) on the power stroke its compensating cylinder is also up and sparking on the exhaust stroke (3-4volts) to burn any unburnt fuel, so if its compensating plug is damaged or not correctly gaped 2 cylinders with not fire or misfire causing rough idle, hope this might helpif not other possibilities clean throttle body, change trans fluid and filter, check fuel
I changed the plugs n leads in my vt calais ecotec last night to ngk plugs and top gun max 300 ignition leads (not sure about the mm's, anyone know?) and durin the process my mate dropped a coil pack onto the concrete ground so now when i floor it it gets to around 60 then splutters, i thought i might have the leads in the wrong order but according to this thread thays right so im gueesin its the coil pack, right?
Why remove the coilpacks to replace plugs and leads ? If the casing is cracked its dead.
as a new commodore owner I was really annoyed that I had to take the manifold off to change my plugs..what a stupid design..on a brighter not car is running brilliantly now and im so glad I didnt pay the $1000 I was quoted to change plugs and coil packs..
It just made it that little bit easier to swap the leads
Yeah I'd go with the coil pack if now FUBAR. Trust me on this, if you get the leads mixed up, the car won't get to 60. I got 4 and 6 mixed up in the dark once, damn the noise was hideous.
If you think removing the manifold is hard (and its not), try working on some of the Jap 4-cylinder jobs, make me want to punch something. Seriously some cars you need a shoehorn just to get your spanner in the engine bay. I'm looking at you , brothers Tarago.
