Hey there guys ... I didn't know how else to explain it, so here goes.!
I have a VX, V6 Commodore ... I wanna replace this engine cover below.!
Are there any * Nicer * looking covers than the ole standard, with better *Air-Flow*.?
I've found the car runs better without the engine cover on, so I have left it off for now, even tho it looks ugly.?

Here Is The Engine-Bay Below With The Engine-Cover Removed - Yuk Hey.?
<<--- My Actual Car.! ( How do U make it look better.? )
What I'm after if possible, is a replacement engine cover, that breathes better than the standard.?
Has anyone got idea's for a " Brisbane Based Person ", to just go down the road & buy 1 & fit myself.?
There's only 4-Bolts to help hold the cover on, so it can't be that hard, just need a nice after-market cover, hey.?

Here's An Example, Below ( Ie; Not Mine ) Of A Custom Engine Cover I Found On The Net ;

Some people respray them different colours. I've also seen a carbon fibre look, can't remember who sells them. You could also get some airbrushing done.
Also seen people remove the cover and polishing up the top of the plenum cover with fine sandpaper and then metal polish or just spray it with some heat proof paint. I did mine black with black rocker covers.

"Give me a minute, I'm good. Give me an hour, I'm great. Give me six months, I'm unbeatable."
Any theories on how this one is possible??? lol. better breathing around ... where?![]()
You might get a slightly better intake temp (.000001C?)
Yeahh, I know it sounds a bit weird when U say it like that ... Thanks everyone ...
I basically wanted a cover that helps run air over the top, thus cooling it - ( have U felt it.? Its pretty darn hot U know)
What I mean, is that having the cover On, HOLD'S the heat more, than leaving it off, thus *seems* to run better without it.!
Seems like most people are just "Spray Painting" their Engine-Covers.?
I was hoping for more of a *finished look*, rather than just a cheap *Raw* look.? - Thanks anyway, still a thought tho.? - Cheers.!
if it's done right it will look good
Ive just finished polishing and painting the top of my motor. I thinks it looks 10x better then the actual cover but i may be biased
On the actual cover ive seen people cut the vertical lines out ( above the 'v6 3800') and put mesh in there. That was my original plan but i lost my cover. Anyway here is the finished product. Ill get some in car pics in my thread in coming days.
Ben
And shiny lid

cant wait to see benno
WHOA " Benno145 " ... WOW ... That IS Impressive.!!!! - Holy Moly.!!
Make sure U provide us a " Link " to your thread on your progress OK, very nice.!
That's what I'm talking about.! - Tho taking the whole engine top OFF is too drastic for me.?
I guess I could possibly polish the top while it's still On the Engine.? - U do this by hand or machine.?
What prep do I need to do.? - Ie ; Polish Used, Cloth, Drill Attachment For The Buff.? - How'd U remove the 4-Bolts/Screws.?
Really is super easy. You could polish the lid of the plenum (the shiny bit) whilst still in the car but it is a bit messy.
Take the 8 x allen key bolts out and the lid just pops off. Yeh taking the whole thing out was tricky and pricey as i had to dump the coolant, oil repace 4 gaskets a o ring etc.
Used a drill *hit it with a wire wheel
*used 1500 then 2500 wet and dry s/paper
*used a buffing pad and autosol,
Quick and inexpensive
Thanks for the nice comment aswell

Supersixty, it isn't hard at all. Just need to be carfull that you remember where all the bits go. Only issues i came across was that i had to take the alternator off. The rest is pretty much straight forward. I think the total process came up to round the $120-$140 mark. As i had to replace gaskets oil etc. But its not worth doing unless you have a nice shiny set of rocker covers as in mine it reall lets down the effort i put in it. Also need to polish my alternator up mmmmm??
