any one diagnose the following: when idle in neutral transmission is quiet, but when idle in gear sounds like a ringing/slight vib from the front of the car. Cant really hear it at speed. mounts have been done by previous owner. Anyone know what this could be? serious, common?
thanks
looking over the forum, anyone know how I can sus out if it is the belt tensioner or something?
Belt tensioners are easy. With the engine running, place a screwdriver blade hard against the pulley axle. Stick the other in in your ear. This is a crude stethoscope. If you can hear the bearing grinding, its the belt tensioner pulley.
Engine cover all secure? Forgot to put the engine cover onto a GenIII securely, started it up, idled fine but as soon as i put the car into gear there was a vibration. Finally clicked, nipped up the 4 fasteners and came good.
Even if the cover is tight it may still be vibrating.
