Hi I have a 1999 VT V6 ecotec. In all gears except N, sounds like a ringing/rattling sound coming from engine. Sound dissapears when I step on the throtle and gets quieter when I put WD40 near pully bolt/belt. Is this a stuffed pully or the whole tensioner assembly? do I need to replace all the pully's I can't isolate the sound with a screwdriver to my ear. Thanks for the help!
i have this too i have come to the conclusion that in Neutral it takes the Revs up... i have found mine get to about 60 km/h and it dissappears i have sticky lifters........ so i would change your oil.... and put some nulon lifter free in..... that might help... if not then i got no idea

Pull the belt off and run it for no more than 30 secs, does it still make the noise? if so it's lifters if not it's idler pulley's or bolt on's, i.e. water pump, alternator etc. Usually idler pulley's, easy to replace. Hope this helps, cheers, Daz.
