Default VX 2001 Dual Fuel - Vibrates like crazy when driving on petrol

    Hi,

I had my VX converted to gas about 2 years ago and it drives great on gas. However when i drive it on petrol it vibrates and shudders like crazy when i accelerate between 60kms to 90 kms. It also shudders a little when stationary. This problem has been getting increasingly worse over the past 6 months. My mechanic can’t find anything wrong. I'm hoping that another commodore driver is having or has fixed a similar problem.

    Please help, thanks.

I had a quick chat with my mechanic & he doesnt think that would be the problem as my gas and petrol run through the same injector. He will be looking at the car on Friday anyway.

If your mechanic said that, it's time to change mechanics.

I am curious how the "mechanic" thinks the gas gets into the fuel rail to be "injected" through the fuel injector! WHAT THE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Life is one big learning curve.

Look at the outlet of your gas regulator. Does the vapour hose feed somewhere into the intake manifold or does it feed into an injector rail?

LPG can NEVER be fed through the same injectors as what your petrol system uses.

Any suggestgens who to take it to instead of my mechanic. It has been recently serviced by the gas installer and is perfectly healthy on the gas side. Should i be taking it to an auto mechanic or straight to a holden dealer?

The gas installer was told about the problem?

Gas service guy has been told about the problem in the past when it was not quite as severe and he has said that the gas system is fine and he cant find any problems, got the impression from what he said that because it was only a problem with the petrol it wasnt his problem/area of expertise. it has got much worse since he last saw it a month or so ago.

I have just spoken with my gas service centre and they said that because it is only a problem on petrol that it is best for me to take it to my mechanic. Am i doing the right thing by going to my mechanic for him to check over it? As you can tell i've limited knowledge on this.

Ditch the gas and just run petrol or ditch the petrol all 2gether that'll fix it.

I guess the next thing is to get the injectors cleaned. Its funny though, cos' now my dash keeps alarming saying fuel guage error, and drops power for a split second before correcting itself and working fine again. It sis doing this more frequently now. I don't know whether the two are related or not. Any clues on the error messages anyone?????

The gas might not be turning off when you switch it to petrol, so it is getting both gas and petrol which will flood the engine. The gas solenoid might not be closing off fully.
Another thing to check would be the air flow meter because these can be damaged from an engine backfire when running on gas. I am pretty sure the air flow meter is only used when running on petrol.
There could be a vacuum leak beween the air flow meter and throttle body also.
I agree about going to another mechanic because it sounds like your mechanic doesn't have a clue.

Hey thanks all for the help. Mechanic looked at the car on friday and long story short but it turns out that i must have had some bad fuel in the tank as its now running perfectly again, mechanic added something to the tank and i filled it up and have been driving on petrol on all weekend and its pretty much perfect. Thanks again

For the future information of us all, it would be good to know what the 'mechanic' did add to the tank.
