Back in June/July last year, Dad and I completed a manual conversion on my VT Acclaim. Everything worked, except for vibrations in the engine and driveline. The clutch was also a little weird to use and there was a violent grabbing sensation when depressing the clutch pedal between 1st and 2nd.
We tried to rectify that by realigning the pressure plate, and it did help a little except that I now had a lot of shudder. It turned out that the pressure plate was bent a little!
So I got a new clutch kit and the car was great for a couple of days, the clutch worked like it should, and the pedal action was much easier than any other manual I'd driven.
But after I attempted moving my trailer, which got the clutch hot (didn't realise the trailer hand brake had been left on), the clutch went back to having the same symptoms.
Edit: I'm not sure if the symptoms came back at exactly this point, or this was a coincidence.
When letting the clutch out, the car begins moving but when the clutch fully engages, it happens in a big 'jerk'. This is highly annoying as I know how to use a clutch! It seems like I'm a new manual driver and am letting out the clutch incorrectly - which is not the case.
The other symptoms are engine vibration (have fixed engine mounts), and the engine shaking when starting or shutting down the engine. There is also a rattle with this. From looking through previous threads, this is apparantly because the flywheel is bad. However, each time the g/box has been out, I have checked the flywheel movement and it seems good in comparison to the checks I have seen on youtube.
I also thought that maybe hot spots on the flywheel could be causing the jerking, but wouldn't be the cause of the shutdown rattle.
What if the shaft where the clutch fork and thrust bearing slide wasn't greased with high enough temperature grease, could lower quality grease have burnt and be causing jerky motion of the clutch fork?
Has anyone else had this problem? The biggest thing is the jerky motion of the clutch, if i could rectify that I could live with the rattles.
Hi mate, I have a VT Series II Manual and it has the same vibration shutdown noises you are talking about, I find if I keep the clutch in when turning off it does make the noise
I get the shake/noise regardless.
To add to the above:
I also have a pretty severe miss at idle and up to 1500rpm. The car isn't very responsive down low. I ordered some new O2 sensors.
I have heard that electronic/ignition problems can cause the engine to miss on shutdown, want some more opinions.
The miss seemed to begin straight after the conversion, I have checked all vacuum hoses, injectors, cleaned throttle body & maf, etc. Maybe the new memcal is bad? Looks like a stock one but you never know I guess.
