My Holden Commodore VT Series II 1999 model Olympic Edition has started giving me problems. The engine stalls while driving for no apparent reason. There is no trend that I can establish so far. The mechanic kept driving the car for 2 days but could not find the problem. We put the car on the diagnostics computer and found no errors except some errors to do with the ignition key and the lock. Could anyone please let me know if they had a similar problem with their car and what do you think I should check since we have checked a few things and could not isolate the cause.
Thanks Nicolas321
Same thing happened to me. It was the DFI module/Coil Pack. it is the module which the spark plugs connect to, from the engine. They can get hairline cracks in the circuit board, which makes them perform intermittently. I picked up one from the wreckers for 60 odd bucks and swapped it myself - damn easy. Problems went away. common fault for VT's.
ours does it. havnt found an answer yet. it stops. most times it restarts automatically sometimes not. hit the key it runs again. hot and cold. just about ready to shoot the mungrel thing
Mines doing same thing! Did loads of searching online. Most suggeting CAS (crank angle sensor).
Found out how to get codes (pins 5&6). Came back with 46 & 47
Before I assume I've worked it out when Holden delership said they had no ideas.... Can someone confirm what these codes mean for VT. I could only find reference for VS
And how can I confirm it's a faulty CAS.
P.S. My gf doesn't love it when cuts out on freeway doing 100k, loses powersteering etc. I'm not exactly a fan eitherbut can mucle the car off the road. Seems very unsafe!!!
hey
from the problems ive had with my vt's i would try the CAS, not a very hard job, if not that then i would try the DFI module, it could be the fuel pump as i just found out with my vt wagon, but no code comes up for this with the ecu. the last thing, that i would try first it try using your spare key, your normal one could be failing
Hope all goes well
Oh by the way BrisbaneVTOwner the Error codes 46 and 47 are
Code 46 = No Reference Signals while Cranking
Code 47 = Crank Angle Reference Signal
Hope This Helps
Yeah definately the Crank Angle Sensor.......its an extemely common problem on the Ecotec V6... especially once they get a few k's on them.
anybody know what a cas is worth
thanks for that. stupid car shows no faults, just going to have to start replacing bits and pieces.
many thanks to all of you there. I am somehow convinced about the CAS unit fault but will wait until I finish my additional research and checking of the various components since I have spent quit a bit of time on checking a lot of things. Yes the car stalls at anytime and it did stall once on the Motorway while I was doing 110 km/h. It did stall as I was taking off on green light. it seems that the problem does not happen when you drive the car for only short distances but rather long distances. Is this consistent with your car faults? thanks nicolas321
Buy 2 cans of caby cleaner ($12 ea), take off the intake to the TB, insert nozzle and pump away (If its bad, one won't be enough). You will see the black carbon crap pour out of it. Do the IAC and EGR valves as well (take them apart and clean them). Also, do you injectors.
Then get some new leads and plugs. You will notice a HUGE difference immediately.
