I was putting a head back on tonight and i found that i seems that i have a stripped thread in the block? I definitely didn't do it and when i think about it i thought it strange that it was really loose when i undid it. Is there anyway this could happen without over tightening it? And well, is there a fix?
Cheers, Daz.
theres 2 possible fix's.
1. re-tap the thread in the block and maybe have to get a thicker bolt.
2. use some locktite.
Id say if it was like that before you undid the thread, the last owner or whoever worked on the heads previously didnt use a torque wrench to tighten and overtightned it.
Using Locktite still won't allow me to torque it will it?
Nah... the only way youll be able to torque it is to re-tap the thread.
You could try thick thick plumbers tape on the thread and some locktite.
You might get away with a bit of tension and the locktite will hold it.
you can use a helicoil to fix it . You will have to drill the hole bigger and screw in a helicoil to suit , A helicoil is like a thread that screws into the hole . Most engineering places like Blackwells sell them.
