Engine number - What Series / year

I need to replace my Vt engine and want to get a Series 2 from a wreckers. im told he has 2 and the numbers are VH539208 & VH716804.
Could someone confirm if hes correct or feeding me pig S**T.

Why would he be feeding you pig shit?

He gave you engine numbers, does it really matter wether its a series II or series I engine?
Their exactly the same! Only they changed a few minor things outside the engines.

If it were me I'd be going for the least km's and the best engine.

OK the info I have on engines:

VH539208 looks like a VS Nov 1995 engine.

VH716804 looks like a VT Oct 1997 engine.

I'd guess none of them are SII VT engines.

To get a SII VT engine you would need to be somewhere around the VH790000 ish which would be around Aug 1998 (I think this is the SII date - but that may be wrong) If you can find the SII release date I can give you a very close E/N that you would need to find to get a SII engine.

I have a S1 VT and it's manufacture date is DEC 1998.

Feb 1999 (logical Holden update time) would put the SII engine numbers approx VH845000
