    Default steering rack boots

    just a quick question can you change the steering rack boots without taking off the steering ties,thanks in advance

    You will need to remove the tie rod ends. It's not very difficult to do yourself.

    Yeah the tie rod ends have to come off in order to slide the new boots on, count the number of turns it takes when taking it off, so when you re-assemble you can get the alignment pretty close by putting it back on the same amount of turns. But get a wheel alignment done ASAP.

    No but the ball joint can be a pain sometimes, usually comes out with a few hits to the side of the steering knuckle with a hammer

    changed mine sometime last year and added these heat shields on them

    these are the pacemaker brand ones, most ppl using the difillippo ones say there noisy.
    im sure i have photo's of them fitted, ill have a look later on

    when removing the ball joint can you mark the nut and the thread in is orginal position with a marker

    I bought a tie rod end remover from Supercheap. I can't remember the price but I think it was cheap. You can remove them without the tool but the tool causes no damage.

    You don't need to remove the ball joint but you can mark the thread on the tie rod.
