Default VT v6 in a Hilux

Have fitted a VT V6 and 4L60E trans into my 96 hilux. Problem is as soon as it warms up while driving the trans kicks back to third and wont change upto fourth ,, changes back to second and back up to thirdno probs,, if i stop it will change fine up to third but thats it.. When it cools down again its fine untill the temp gets back up again ... Any help greatly appreciated

Have you got the speed sensor connected up, though probably would be affected by temperature as you say,

Im not far off doing this conversion myself in a 4runner, if you dont mind me asking, whose conversion gear did you use, was your hilux independant front end or solid axle , are you running the bcm or did you disable it

When you sat it goes back to 2nd, si that manually selected with the stick or just a kick down from pressing the pedal? I suspect you are in limp home mode where 3rd id the default gear.

I wouldn't be driving it around until it gets sorted because 3rd grabs a bunch of components in the box to do its' job so if you just use that gear it can cook the box. I've done this before.

As the other guy said if the BCM sin't getting the right signals the box will default to limp home

Nah it kicks back using the pedal.. if i stop it will take off in first and change up to third as normal but wont go any further,,, suspect speed sensor as i have read about a couple of others that have had problems with the marks adapters,, although not the same problems

good work doing it all yourself , its what im going to do , mine has the independent front end so i have to change my sump and oil pick up as well,
but i'd definately be checking out the speed sensor though,

are you running the stock ecotec manifolds or did you have to use a set of vs ones, i have to use vs cause of the steering link in the engine bay when i do mine,

good luck with it let us know how you get on

Default can i fit a manual engine to my 4l60E auto trans

Have fitted a ecotech V6 to my hilux and have had a engine meltdown (my own silly fault,,took off with radiator cap off and it blew all the water out thus cooking things a bit) . A mate of mine has a engine but it is hooked up to a manual gearbox ,,just wondering if the flywheels will change over or not,,, i believe earlier model v6`s wern`t interchangeable
