i have no 2nd gear and i've got no idea about these boxes! i think its the 460le box but all this modern stuff has me beat. i have only delt eith trimatics before in my old vh sle.
i did a skid in my car for a mate then and when i stoped it just skips 2nd and now goes into 3rd i dont know if is the 2nd gear band or if its the servo? should i just take it to the shop or can i do this at home.
again i i dont know how these boxes work but im prity good mechanicly if have a basic idea cheers
You would be best off getting the fault diagnosed on a Tech2 diagnostic scan tool. The 4L60E is different to a trimatic in that it's higly controlled by electronics.
Could be a solenoid, or something could be fried. The Tesh2 will at least tell you if all the elctronics are working.

Yeah i have the same problem, at first i thought it was just not going in properly and it being a machanical problem but i noticed in traffic in sydney that it was totally missing. I used to use my 2nd to slow down at the same time as my brakes, might have sped up the 2nd gear problem process...
I dunno if this is a gear selector electronic problem or what, i can drive it as it is but should i just take it to a shop and fork out the cash?
mine done the same a few months back, lost 4th and reverse at the same time, if your in NSW i suggest going to craigs automatics in sydney... i got a built box to handle 550rwhp for $2800 exchange, was interesting driving 3 hrs away with only 1st and 3rd gear haha, but this new box is AWESOME!

nah cameron i asked craig about that when i was up there and he said its bullshit, he said they had done testing on plenty of boxes deliberately trying to break them and they never had an issue with shifting it, netural dumps however kills them fast haha

Yeah, i wouldnt dump it too much.. unless its wet haha. I doubt it going to replace the whole gearbox if i can help it, im going to take it to a mechanic and see what they rekon about not getting 2nd at all.

I got mine rebuilt at Lake Macquarie Auto Transmissions at Toronto. Mine cost me $3200 but I got a shift kit and billet servo ( 4th, already had 2nd )fitted at the same time. He told me if i broke it, was time to look at a T400 or 4L80E conversion.
Fellas, i would be looking at the Solinoids. Full set of replacement soleniods fromn the states is only $110 AU delivered....Shift Kit, with new valve body is $250......Parts are cheap, you just have to know how to rebuild em.....on
Sounds like you might need to have the 1 -> 2 shift solenoid replaced.
depends how hot the tyres get 3rd is good too :P if i went 3.9's 3rd would be easier
