I have a 99 VTII Commodore. For the last few months when I am driving the Engine Light will come on and as soon as it does the car will resist changing gears, and makes a thud noise once it changes the gear and when you are in a higher gear it resists going into a lower gear once the car loses power (such as when going up a hill).
Strangely enough if you turn the car off it will correct the problem from anywhere between a few minutes to a few hours.
Does anyone have any idea what this could be?
i would be first checking your error codes, this will point you in the right direction..
we could speculate a heap from ur autos dying, to sensor failure causing the engine to go into limp home mode, let us know what the codes are
I had the the same problem, I changed the air cleaner element and now ok ( mine was running on gas at the time and it backfired a few times and the throttle body tried to eat the air cleaner element) . Let us know how you go with yours.
I got the codes from it which are 19 and 29. So it could possibly be the Throttle Position Sensor. My car manual was taking about a low fan speed in relation to code 29. I gather it is not possible to repair a throttle position sensor?
Thanks for your help.
nar just purchase a new one, there a sealed unit. once you replace it, remove the positive wire from the battery for a minute (doesnt take this long but its a good guide) to clear the codes, connect her back up and then go for a drive. after your drive check your codes again and you should have only code 12.
Here are some reasonably priced TPS's: Fuel pumps idle speed motors fuel injectors oxygen sensors

I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
