99 VT ringing sound noticable at idle while in gear. Seems to get worse when hot. Disappears when incr RPM. I have changed the two pullys. What else could it be? entire belt tensioner system? or possibly just the belt? waterpump? frustrated!!
cheers
Did you leave a Mobile Phone under the bonnet.
Just Kidding.
Could be your belt tensioner. They usually get noisy after 150,000K's or so.
Sound like a Chirpy/Ringing sound that changes with revs. More noticable when ideling and then goes away on higher revs.
The tensioners lose their Tension and start bouncing all over the place and cause the noise. You can test this by Placing a Ring Spanner on the Front bolt and Pulling it while the engine is ideling so it tensions more. (Obviously be really carefull). If it goes away, its the Tensioner. They are not too expensive from GMH. and Fairly easy to replace.
Hi thanks for the reply. If the tensioner is shot does the indcator on the tensioner change? the markings are I---I-I-I and the arrow is at the second I from the right. should the arrow be between the marks with the greatest distance between them? Thanks
