New VX Aerial Mast & Rope

My aerial on my VXII Lumina has been broken since I bought it, on one of the Holden services the previous owner had done it said just a new rope and mast was needed. Finally got around to getting one of the Aerpro replacements from Supercheap and with much fiddling around fitted it today however it doesn't retract flush with the body. Is this right or is something not operating properly? I get the clunking sound when the arial hits the top and bottom.

Any ideas?

I just did this one myself. Best suggestion is to remove the aerial and make sure it fully retracts before installing into the car, Take unit apart - remove the small white plastic cog so that the aerial can be moved in and out manually. Push the aerial down fully - if anything is stopping it you may need to pull it apart further to investigate - I had a small piece of the old 'rope' jamming things up.

Mate. had another crack at it today and after some skinned knuckles found I had the exact same problem. Works beautifully now, thanks for the tip.
