    Default Busted seat pockets

    Boys and Girls...

Both of the seats in my VX have busted pocket things behind them, I take it this is common? The plastic rail down the side of the pocket has broken where the screw threads in, and the elastic in the pocket is stuffed too.

Are they easy to replace? Seems like they're screwed in from inside the seat somehow, I'm not sure if I can get to the screws to take them off. Its annoying as, looks shyte!

Don't know how to fix but one of mine broke sometime in the last few weeks. I am going to get it fixed at the dealers so I'll tell you how much it costs to get ripped off to get it done!

    they are called MAP POCKETS.
they are about $50 each and come with everything you need to replace them.
they are screwed on from the inside too.
remove the HIGHEST twist knob on the side of the chair (not the bottom twist knob) and then lift the plastic (that is under the twisty knob that you just removed) over the metal bar that the knob came from.
now, grab the bottom middle of the plastic seat back and pull it towards you.
you will hear a snap and then you will have the plastic seat back in your hands.
the snap you heard are 2 white plastic clips that hold the backing to the seat.
dont worry as there is no way to remove the backing without breaking them - plus, these 2 clips are included in your new map pockets!.

remove the old map pocket and replace with the new one.
when returning the backing to the chair, make sure you have the top 2 hooks in properly, then push the base inwards, lift the side over the metal bar and replace your twist knob.
    job done.
    5 minutes each side.

that's a perfect description of how its done, i bought my car with a map pocket missing, it cost me $37 for a new one, but i had to buy the white clips separately, $2 each if i remember correctly.

    Map Pockets! That's them.

Thanks heaps for that, will replace both of them. Is it worth getting calais ones or something? Or are they all the same?

Mental Note: don't put MagLite in map pocket as it broke it.

Got my car serviced the other day and they only charged me 20 labor to fit them. Yes I could have probably have done it myself but I had better things to do.

map pockets are map pockets - doesnt matter if they are Calais or Executive, they are all the same.
the only difference is the colour options.

ive noticed in a matter of time if u use em for melways or have kids and baby seats at the back they will be screwd again, this is holdens fault for not making em more sturdy they are very flimsy esp for the melways which is a heavy book they should have made em more stronger!

they actully did make them stronger, they bought out a revsion of the first ones with larger mounting screws and thicker walls in the pockets to hold them on. I have one old one and one new one, side by side you can see the differnce in quality

You can remove the seat back without breaking the clips. You can use a flat blade screwdriver between the seat and the backing at the bottom to push up and compress the clip tangs to release.I've done hundreds of them this way,but you're right, you do get new ones in the kit now.Originally the clips were seperate to the seat pocket.
One thing to remember is that when fitting the revised type pocket to an older backing, the holes have to be drilled out to accomodate the larger pins on the pocket frame.
If you don't do this, the pocket won't fit correctly - won't be flush with seat back.
