I ended up chickening out and taking the shell back. Replaced it with valvoline syngard 10-50 fully synthetic. After it cost me almost $50 i almost regret it now, However if it works great once a year change coming up.

    RE RE..

I had that oil done yesterday, Very quite and the car loves it.

You mean Synpower 10W50 ? You can find it for $45 at Untied SErvos. Synguard is only in 10W40 and should not cost $50. Why you Chickening out on the Shell oils ? Some of the best stuff going around. Mobil, Shell, Havoline/Caltex, BP/Castrol are the kings of oil, they pull it out of the ground, they refine it, everyone else gets their base oils from them........ they even share additives with one another. The key is in how they mix/blend it.......thats what makes the one better than the other. Since Shell took over Pennzoil, they would have one of the best additive packs available. Valvoline is excellent and Synpower is what i use now, but dont be scare of other oils

Yes, 10W30 is no more. 0w40 is not much different anyway. THey are so close spec wise at startup and operation its a waste of their money to make both. The nature of a 0w40 is that if used for 10,000k's it would shear down to a 0W30 in anycase. So no difference.......

I would use anything from 5W40 Shell Helix Ultra, Mobil 3000 x2 5W40, Valvoline Synpower 10W50, Mobil Delvac MX 15W40 (Repco diesel is just re bottled version), Havoline Delo 400 15W40. If it leaks or burns oil go Valvoline Maxlife 20W50 or Pennzoil High Mileage 20W50. There is so much info on it........ The oils i recommend you range from $24(Repco Diesel) in price to $50 in price (Helix Ultra SM at many Big W's).

LOL your right that was what i used before. Synpower, I would have looked stupid asking for syngaurd 10w-50.
Beautifuloil very happy, Looks like i have found what i am going to use from now on.
I also picked up nulon 15-50. But decided to go with the Synpower. The shell to me might have been a touch to much to soon. I ran 10-40 before and i didnt think i needed to go 15w yet as it was quite and smoooth running. So the 10-50 seemded perfect. And lucky my sump plug was cactus, Engine mounts gone found my little vibration wobble..

Coming into the cooler months now, the 10W is a good choice. From my own experience there is very little between a 10Wand a 15W at startup, especially with Shell oils being slightly thinner than the rest at the same viscosity. Grrr i have done my engine mounts already as well........

mobil 1 fully synth 5w-30 and 0w-40 seem to be the most common around bursons/autobarn/repco/supercheap around my area and they only stock 4-5 bottles of each at once because theyre very low sellers i used to use 10w-60 castrol edge (as most of the l67 community sais to) but i found i get alot better economy out of the 0w-40 mobil 1 (9.5l/100 as to 12.5/100) lol

I agree you would see small differences in economy between the two oils, but that is an incredible difference in fuel consumption. The 60 grade oil would have to making an incredible lot of friction.

Yeah, it seems in some cars a 60 may be a tad too thick. But they do seem like dramatic fuel economy changes. Switch back to the castrol and see if it goes up again with the same driving ?

0W40 are their best oils, for Mobil and Castrol, but seem to perform better in the engines they were speced for. Mobil 1 5w50 would be the best for the commodore, Mobil 3000 x2 5w40 would even be my choice over that . Much cheaper as well.

I was wondering the same thing?...

Maybe they do still make it, but it's hard to find in stores - both of my local auto stores didn't have it.

Nah they definitely don't make it anymore. We had some, but it was just left over stock as I went to order more about a week ago after seeing this thread but we were not able to get any more in.
