On the inside of the Drivers door you the 2 hinges that hold the door onto the car.
Then you have the "hinge" between them that stops the door swinging completely open.
Hopefully you all know which part im talking about.
Part of mine, the part that's in the door, has broken. Someone told me the whole door needs replacing. Was wondering if that's the case.
Ive attached a picture to show you. Ive circled the area, and what ive coloured in red is the part that has broken. Any advice would be hugely appreciated.
Car is a 97 VT, for the record.
A picture of the your actual door so we can see the break would help a lot.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
Replacing the whole door is a bit drastic . Maybe you could MIG weld it back on.
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't
Its called the "Check Strap" I believe, known problem with series 1 VTs. They can also break in any number of ways, so yeah pics required. Mine just recently broke by completely jamming when I was closing the door, which ripped apart the mounts inside the door itself (still trying to figure out how to fix it).
Well the highlighted red bit BROKE completely, found shards of metal in the bottom of the door when i took the trim off. I will take some photos tomorrow in the daylight for you all.
had the same thing happen to my vt wagon but was like that when i bought it it had actually tore the metal in the door where it bolts too so really the only fix for mine was getting a new door...
meh just used me foot to keep door open when needed, but yes did get annoying after a few months.....
F**k, thats pretty much the news i was expecting, someone did suggest MIG welding but said it wouldnt be worth it and it may not be too secure.
Time to look into some options then.
