Depends on the type of plug. Have you checked the owners manual? It should have the service schedule which will tell you how often to change them.

Mine are long-life ones so they only need changing every 90,000kms, but standard plugs are more like 40-50,000kms

I just replaced my NGK plugs last week and they had done 49,200 K's, never had them out in that time. They were worn a little around the electrode edges, but the gap was only 0.05mm bigger than from new. They had virtually no deposits on them and I was tempted to give them a file and re-gap and put them back for another run, but since they are so cheap I put a new set in. The engine runs with NO noticable differance, starts, idles etc just the same as always.

I would assume that they are around the $4-$4.50 each mark now. I bought mine several years ago when one of those auto shops had a 25% off day and put them on my 'spares shelf'.

Replace them every 40,000kms or two years. Plugs are cheap and easy to replace.
