changed brake pads but have high pitch noise

changed brake pads / front and rear on my vt clubsport but they now have a annoyinging squeel / high pitch noise only when slowly coming to a stop . noise isnt there at normal speeds . any ideas .

being a holden mechanic, i can tell you a few things about the clubbys...

if the pads are not genuine, they will squeek, you could put the best pads in, and will still make the same noise...

also check again if you have put the pads in the right way around, common problem which can cause a noise also.

if thats not the problem, going for a flog, warm the pads up, push the pedal hard, but not tilll abs kicks in and see how you go...

yeah pads are in right way . but where does noise come from would it be from the clips or the metal prong things attached to pads . also anyone what is proper way to bed in .????

procedure is roughly like... drive at 60k's, brake with average force down to about 10 ks then release brake and accelerate back up to 60, drive a few hundred metres and brake again. Do this about 10 times and its done. Avoid hard braking for the first week or so.
What pads did you use, not Fredos i hope ?

used bendix on the rear and qfm on front which are suppose to be equal if not better bendix ultimate .

i seem to remember hearing that the QFM 'ultimates' tend to squeel as they are a hard pad. I saw it in the GSL thread.

Did you replace the metal slide inserts? If those arent installed correctly they can rub on the disc sometimes

He's got a VT that's just got standard VT calipers, and not HSV specific ones like the later models... So I wouldn't be claiming that everything other than a genuine pad in a VT caliper squeals cause 99.9% of VT calipered cars won't have genuine pads in them, and squeal, esp with QFM pads are pretty rare.

Check the usual things, that the caliper slides are greased properly etc.

i have the same problem , i replaced the rotors and pads , but still have an annoying squeal like yours , im wondering if maybe the back brakes are making the noise , as i havent done them, they look a bit hard

yea i just replaced two front pads, and had a look at the back two and they looked like they had plenty of meat on em, and it still makes that stupid high pitched whine

Squeal as got nothing to do with the pad material itself, or how much meat is left on them. It's the harmonics that exist within the caliper, and the the backing plate of the pad itself. Things like properly greased up slide pins, calipers cleaned with brake clean when new pads installed, properly working dust seals etc.

It's a good idea, when replacing the pads, to remove the caliper guide pins and re-grease them with some silicon rubber grease. This will allow the pads to centralise on the rotor and have minimal drag.

It also stops them seizing, causing your brand new set of pads to wear out one individual pad in 5,000km.

did u shanfer the new pads before putting in? what we do at work is use the bench grinder to lightly grind the edge of the pads because if not the edges may, how to say, flake and the small sharp flakes cause squeeling... hope this helps..
