Hello all,
I have a clunk coming from the rear of my car, sounds like the diff or IRS cradle. It happens with i back off the gas suddenly or jerk the gas on and off quickly. Any ideas?
Thanks, oh and the car is manual if that helps 103,000kms.

Yeh thats pretty much what its doing. If i load the diff up say reversing up a hill then put the clutch in with still moving there is a clunk there. No shudder through the car just the noise really

yeah a lot of cars do it, every car will to a small extent I believe. It can get really bad though over the years, my VN got to the point I was worried about the diff smashing itself apart

Ask your mechanic to have a drive, or come with you while you demonstrate it

I'll lite it up for him then put the clutch in. CLUNK!

Had the car at the mechanic all day and he cannot find anything wrong with the diff or the rear end. He said the vt 6 manual has some backlash noise that is always there. However he has found that the front engine mounts are almost had it so ill get some replaced when they go.
Thanks for your replies guys!

Standard unwanted feature with the driveline backlash unfortunately, I have it in mine. I've learned to live with it especially with Manual.
Having a manual more than makes up for it in fun in my opinion. Just turn the music up and cruise along![]()
I was told that some diffs have a bearing that supports the axel shaft somewhere behind the wheel/brake assembly and it can get flogged out and move around? anyone confirm??
