Default VT SS Steering Wheel and Deck questions

Howdy All,

Am new to the forums, so will start off with an easy one.

My VT SS has an aftermarket pioneer stereo (put in before i purchased it), and does not have audio controls on the steering wheel. Therefore i wish to do two thing.

1) Purcahse a later model factory eurovox stereo with CD player (i have the original one in my garage without cd player), and fit that into the original harness in the car.

2) Purchase a holden steering wheel with audio controls on it.

Im pretty sure i have the procedure sorted, but want some confirmation / advice from some of you lads. From what I can see, I would firstly disconnect the battery, then remove the steering wheel (as per some instructions i found here. I am aware this may change slightly due to it being a different mode, vehicle. Once the wheel is off, I will need to find out if i have to run wires for the volume control etc (can anyone shed some light on this?). I then simply install my newly purcahsed wheel with volume controls, followed with the installation of my factory stereo.

How does that sound???

A few followup questions...

1) Does anyone have a factory holden wheel with steering controls on it they would be prepared to sell to me?
2) Does anyone have a factory holden eurovox stereo (must have CD, arial up and down controls and steering volume control capability) they would like to sell to me?
3) Does anyone want to purcahse a factory holden stereo???. (tape version out of the VT SS)
4) Does anyone want to purchase a standard holden VT SS Steering wheel with no volume controls?
5) Does anyone want to purchase a Pioneer DEH-P2050 car stereo. ?

Looking forward to any input anyone has.

Cheers

Dave

LOL!, I realise it seems a little too much, but ive stepped straight out of a 94 VR Caprice, and the volume controls on the wheel is something i have gotten very used to and like a lot.

It is a Series 1 1998 VT SS 195i. Its the optioned one with the sunroof and so on.

Cheers

Dave

Mate im not sure about anything else, but i have a vt ss series one, and it had a factory eurovox cd player in it, not sure about the steering control, however it looks the same as my old girls vx berlina which has steering conrol.
I have since replaced it with a jvc touch screen head unit, so its just lying around.

Car Audio places (Pioneer, Alpine etc) tend to make some kind of module for your steering wheel so you have access to the controls... Would look different than moulded in ones, but wouldn't really look bad... Maybe look into finding one of these?

I have the factory single cd/tape player in my seriers II SS, I will be taking it out soon to replace it, & my leather steering wheel does not have the controls, I am going the way digitok has said, as I will be also upgrading the speakers & adding my Alpine amp.

Cheers

VTSS,

Would you be interested in selling the factory unit when you take it out?. What kind of $$ would be after?, and is there any chance you might be able to shoot me some pics of the rear of it when you take it out?

And desruction, yes it is a leather bound wheel, however the leather is midly worn on it.

Hi Dave,

Okay mate when it comes out I'll let you know, but I dont think its the one you want as I also do not have the steering wheel controls.

I got a pm form someone wanting to sell me his VX one but I feel it was for you, as Im going for a pioneer or Alpine deck.

Cheers

Done also a side note, have you had a look around your local wreakers?

Good luck with it all Dave.

You can buy just the steering wheel controls on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....sPageName=WDVW.

You will also need to make sure that your steering wheel clock spring can handle the steering wheel controls. If not you will need one of these as well. Again these can be regularly found on ebay.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the stereo needs to out of a high model VT or a VX.

My VX Acclaim has them and it has the CD player.
