Hey
Just a question on what terminology i should use when asking for an exhaust.. I have a V6 VX Series 2 Berlina. Is it a twin system? And i'm wanting a 2 n a 1/2" system..
I just want to be able to go in and ask for what i want, and to look like i know what i'm talking about. So i don't get slammed with the novice charge lol.. giving them an open chequebook so to speak
Cheers in advance
Hi Mate,
To my knowledge the Berlina aren’t a twin system, They are generally only required on V8’s.
To the sounds you are after, “A 2.5inch cat back exhaust system”. Now depending on the brand I think you will have the option of running a “resonator” also.
That will typically just be a bolt on unit, Otherwise there are also the Headers or more commonly said to be “Extractors” – They bolt on the side of the engine. These then lead to your cat converter, However this shouldn’t be required to be changed as you only need ‘High flow” cat converters when the engine has had work done.
I am only learning exhaust terminology myself, So bare with me if I haven’t said anything right.
Hope this helps though!

i think you can still get twin system if its a V6

Don’t get me wrong, You can by all means get a twin system for a V6.
But is it worth it?
Cheers super66, but yeh the reason i asked was because i knew there should be a twin system on the V8, but wasn't sure if there should be one on the V6.. but yeh once again cheers.. might go down to profix (dealt with them alot, they seem to give my family a good deal) and get a quote done..
Not 100% on this,
But running twin 2.5” on a v6 Ecotec will loose back pressure and therefore you will actually loose ‘performance’.
As for your ‘sound’ theory, To my knowledge running the twin system will sound like a load of crap as it will have allot of drone.
Look the way I see it, running a twin system will be useless for you. If you want to sound like a V8, Go and buy one.![]()
i don't want a twin system lol.. just want a little bit of sound
I picked up a bolt on exhaust for around about $230 for my VS, installed it myself, and saved maybe 50-$100 if that gives you any idea.
Also I've not mention this before, but with the exhaust on my VS, I had to cut the end down to fit a tip on, which got stolen, resulting in the exhaust ending an inch before the end of my bumper.... the sound of the exhaust was much deeper (for a 6) with the flow being somewhat obstructed.
i think a recommended twin system for a standard V6 would be twin 2.25". Twin 2.5" would be massive overkill and a loss of performance for sure. Even with a twin 2.25", headers would make it even better.
a single catback only 2.5" will have your car sounding like this
YouTube - VT manual take off, soft
YouTube - VT V6 Exhaust note, idle and revs

ah cheers nicko.. both sound pretty good, i'm thinking of going with a single system 2.5", on a budget.. i'll be able to put extractors on in the future right?
also will my future gas conversion be affected by a new exhaust? or vice versa?
Both clips are of my car, the take off video is after about 30,000kms with the exhaust on and the 2nd video is just after it was fitted.
Yes you can chuck extractors on it later and the gas conversion wont need a different exhaust

ahk.. yeh it sounds very nice, gotta wait till bloody tuesday to go book it in lol.. stupid public holiday haha..
but cheers guys for all your help![]()
just got my exhaust fitted.. sounds pretty sweet :P.. nothing too loud, but it purrs![]()
just 2.5" from the cat and a muffler.. actually sounds like a mates v8 wh statesman (kinda lol).. but not as loud.. so i'm pleased..
the to do list:
1. Tip (got a black pipe looks pretty ace :S..)
2. High flow cat
3. Rims
4. Extractors
5. Fix up body work (stupid bastard punched my car)
Hi Nick how did the exhaust mod effect your, low end - top end performance was there any difference, often opening up the exhaust can change the powerband (for want of a better term)
I don't think the twin systems will kill a V6 off. The Raptor guys had a twin hsv system fitted to their project car, Went great.
