VT getrag jammed

Hey guys newbie here. The young bloke just picked up a 98 vt manual and by the time he got it home the clutch was nearly on fire, impossible to find reverse and 4th is only just going in but only just. Ive been told that the selecters on these boxes can get "tangled" if so how does one untangle them?

I dont know if this has any bearing on the problem but the previous owner has installed a Billet Shifter.

When you let the clutch out it will engage on only the last 1/4 of pedal travel and the fluid in the master cylinder resembles some thing I flushed after a dodgy chicken roll.
Any help on this would be most appreciated.

sounds like the young bloke gave her a caining on the way home

not being certain or anything but i know how well those clutches fry up when you do repeated burnouts..

More to the point he knows 5/8ths of bugger all on how to drive a manual. That was the first thing I checked for and couldnt find any evidence.
