2 weeks ago i got my transmission service done which was replacing pan gasket and filter and topping up with new transmission oil, my question is is there anything apart from those parts that needed changing? cause thats all i saw mechanic change and cleaned the pan with degreazer and that magnet thing thats at the bottom of the pan, i didnt notice much difference in driving and i hadent serviced the tranny for 5 yrs so yer thats all i wanted to know!!!
That's pretty much all they do on a tranny service.

I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
If it aint broke don't fix it. Filter and pan gasket along with trans fluid is all you can do for a service. Shift kit is a nice little extra with a service for next time![]()

Pan off, filter out, clean pan and magnet and scrape off old gasket. New gasket on, new filter in, pan on, fill with fluid. If it takes you anymore than 15 minutes you're doing something wrong

Thinking it's probably one of those things my car is getting in need of having done.
$100 for a small workshop, $150 for more pricey joints. The good thing about trannys servicing is that the fluid is hard to skimp on. DEX3 is DEX3 pretty much.

Just on this topic, I *may* be doign mine next weekend.. see how I go, but how much ATF would be required?
4.3 litres for service refill. use nulon synthetic fluid if you give in a thrashing. it handles the heat much better than mineral dex3
Alot of Dex 3 needs Semi Synthetic to get it to spec, and is loaded with additives, therefore its hard to find a poor quality Dex 3. I use Valvoline or Repco brand made by Mobil. One of the best things you can do is install a Magnefine filter. I will post a pic of it installed next time round. Welcome to the Australian Magnefine Website Install one after you have done a full system flush through the cooler lines. Take the line off going from the cooler back to the trans, or RHS hose facing engine. Block off the line on the engine side and the piece from the cooler into a container. Add 1 or 2 litres and run the engine for 15 seconds. It will pump out the fluid and turn off, add another 2 litres and keep doing untill it comes out all clean. It took mine about 6-7 litres till it came out clean. This way you replace all of the fluid in the trans, including the torque convertor.
is that line going from the cooler back to the trans a metal pipe? I have a vx sII and on the drivers side lower part of the radiator i also have a metal pipe that also has a rubber section to it that is easy to remove.....not sure what that pipe is though...i'm guessing it's the the pipe going back to the trans? can anybody confirm this as I am unsure and want to flush trans from there as it's easier to remove rubber pipe then metal one.
Yes, the line going from the cooler back to the transmission has a rubber section. It is on the right hand side.
