Hi,
My VT 5.0 SS is making a very loud knocking noise (ie hear it 10 metres down the street loud), so i'm thinking a bearing or rod knock.. Whats likely to be my cheapest option, replace the engine with a second hand, or have the current one rebuilt? (having a workshop do all the labour).
Also need to know a workshop somewhere near St kilda/South melb/Elsternwick that can do this for a reasonable price!
Having spent $9K on an engine rebuild for my last car, I'm just about ready to jump off the westgate bridge with this happenning to this one, any help gratefully accepted!
does it sound top end or bottom end maybe you have destroyed a lifter
The noise sounds like its coming from the top end, by ear it sounds like its right under the engine cover at the front left (standing in front of the car). but its a LOT louder than i would expect lifter noise to be (the sound almost drowns out the v8).
Originally it went away as the car warmed up, had a service and it returned with a vengeance and is now always there, increases in speed with rpm and is generally constant in volume.
I agree. It sounds like a lifter or oven push rod. pretty easy to replace yourself.I've had a similar problem before.
