i changed my tail lights a little while back. they fit straight in, though you'll need to replace a small part of the loom as the standard ones do not fit, which is dead easy. recommend you get them from holden because they'll know what ones to give you to save headaches. just unplug the little white plug from inside the boot lid carpet, pull the end globe section through the little rubber grommets, feed monaro ones through and plug in. replace globes into relevant holders and you're done.

word of advice just in case, I'd recommend GENUINE monaro tail lights, as the others are not suitable for road use, they leak bad and cause short circuiting apparently. cheaper to get the real thing in the long run.

yeah, but so many commodores out there are just lowered... why just blend into the crowd, when you can do something extra to stand out and be different to everyone else... and in many cases, to properly lower your car, you'd need to spend a fair bit more to do it properly than you'd spend on a set of tail lights... so it's not actually "cheap" in the long run....

and thats why you DONT get Monaro tail lights unless you are a sheep.
seriously, if you want to be different, keep your stock lights instead.
you wont be impressing anyone by wasting money on Monaro tail lights for your povo pack VT.

My car is stock and stands out so much compared to the cheap altezza and monaro lights you see everywhere.

Theres a difference between opinion and fact. Fact is, more than half of the VT/Xs here has those shitty monaro lights, so you wont be standing out.

very true... 2 of my mates have VT's with the fugly lights on them, I dont.

Then on this site, check the "VT Ride" Section and just scroll through them and you will see how many people really have the monaro lights.

the clear monaro lights i have to say look friken dread***l and i would never dream of putting them on my vt. Ive been looking round, i own a S1 vt and was tossing up whether to go for some simple S2 rear tail lights or ive seen some lights on ebay i think it was, cant remember the name, but they more a black colour all over except for where the lights are needed and they have the LEDs, what does everyone think of these ones? and does anyone have them on their vt im curious to see wat they look like fitted.

No probs. If we were discussing weather it would be 'modded' as opposed to stock, you'd be right.

vt s, just go for the series 2 lights, and leave the garnish. Best possible combo available.

Those LED type look great man but does depend on the colour ur car is? and make sure u get the pair that has the black center not the clear center as it looks cheap that 1. i can see y u dont like the chrome tho well..... chrome is 4 homos lol

yea nothing i cant stand less for than chrome lol, it just looks tacky and cheap, only very rarely do chrome wheels look good. Btw my vt is white i reckon those rear lights with the black would offset the white nicely, what you think?

I have some photos to share of my VT series 1 Berlina. I changed the tail lights and rear decor panel in January this year. I like the VZ Monaro back end - I think it looks much smarter than the stock VT. Previous posters were correct mentioning that the Alteza type chrome aftermarket Monaro lights aren't ADR approved. The main reason for this is they have no internal reflection inside the lamp bezel. Since the VT (like the VZ Monaro) doesn't have any reflectors on the bumper, to keep legal the tail lights must have a reflective component internal to the light. The VX doesn't have reflective lights, but instead has those ugly oval reflectors on the rear bumper. If you want to keep legal, buy genuine GMH lights. You can find them on ebay for around $145 including globes and loom.

I found a good website which explained all the nitty gritty details - I have posted it here if anyone is keen to read it:

    Project VT 2 Monaro

The main things you will need to do the mod like I did are:

1: Geniune GMH Monaro tail lights (I paid $153 which included delivery from an ebay seller for brand new, genuine GMH tail lights. This included the bulbs and also the loom).
2: VX executive decor panel (GM92148334 - $140 from Holden dealer)
3: Decor panel seal (GM92143281 - $44 from Holden dealer)
    4: Decor panel bolts + seal ASM07 qty 4 (GM92138556 - $2.29 from Holden dealer)
5: Lamp asm Licence Plate qty 2 ($11 ea from Holden Dealer)
6: 3m length 10A green hookup wire for wiring left hand side reverse lamp.

All up, including painting the VX garnish, it cost around $500.00. Personally, I think it was worth it.

Here are some photos of the finished product:
