Hey guys,
My Wagon up and died on me Sunday morning and hasn't been well since. Funny thing was it started fine, ran for about a minute then died. Thought WTF, tried to start it again and got no love, and haven't since. I though initially that it may have been the pump, but I can still hear it prime the line. It kicks over but it wont start. After reading a few things on the net and on here im guessing its either a shite fuel filter, or a relay that may have died.... but im guessing if the relay died the pump wouldn't be still trying to prime the line. Haven't got to working on it just yet, but does anyone have any ideas?
Has spark, fuel pump still primes and still turns over
Cheers
Fuel pump...the priming and whining noise you hear is just the electric, at least the electric part is fine...whether or not you're getting enough pressure in the fuel line is something thats gotta be looked at.
Thanks acemonkey. whats the best way of checking pressure in the line? Had someone suggest removing the fuel filter, running a piece of tube from the line into a bottle and watch the flow. I wouldnt have thought that was the best idea but its the only suggestion I got at the moment
Have you done error code check? Look in the how to section and it explains how to do it.
If you can still hear the fuel pump but it is buggered, generally it will fire and sometimes start and idle but won't rev. If the pump has died completely or it is a relay then you won't hear it at all.
It could be a number of things, but if you do an error code check you can go from there.
check your error codes could be your bcm
MY VR's pump carked it years ago. I rang the NRMA and the guy used a lump of timber to whack the bottom of the tank a couple of times. The car started and ran fine and he told me it was the pump, a common fault on old Commies and advised me to replace it asap.
He said the "tank whack" trick was a well known and effective short term cure for sick pumps. give it a go and see if it helps.
thanks for the help guys, ill give it a boot in the ass when I get home and see if that does the trick. failing that ill run a diagnostic, clear the codes and run it again and compare results. The old VN had a hell of a time with the inhibitor switch, and with a gentle rock in park she came back to life... was quite embarassing when people are telling me I should take the handbrake off before I try move it hahaha
Thanks again guys
