Did you use chrome paint for that? or did you somehow manage to keep a berlina one in tac during the process.

No amount of chrome paint would actually look like that! That is real chrome.

But if he did preserve it when cutting the splines then he did a dam good job without scratching it!!!

No such thing as chrome paint - don't let anyone tell you otherwise it's bulls--t. Real (i.e. metal) chrome is electroplated and expensive.

No i bought a new pair of Exec grilles for about $40 each from Holden Spare Parts, removed the fins (and a lot of skin) then sent them to The Bronzing Studio in Castle Hill (western Sydney). Including postage cost about $160 each. My car is a daily driver so i don't know if i'll leave them on for out of town but as i'm worried about stone chips.

No that's impossible - even if you remove the black paint from a pair of Berlina gilles, and remove the fins (and without scratching the surrounding chrome) you'd still have gaps/blank spots in the chrome where the fins join into the rest of the grille. It'd look silly.

I've got a VT Calais series One and I want to get the VT Calais Series II grilles with the fine fins not the Series 1 that I already have.
My question is, if I buy an exec one, (all black) and try to use paint stripper, will this reveal a chrome plastic underneath?

No place seems to sell the series II Grilles , particularly the Calais ones!

    Any help would be appreciated,

    Cheers

mesh - Autobarn $30 for a massive sheet, probly do like 8 + grills with one sheet

Painting - Id use a spray primer and spray colour, then finish with a clear, no brush marks that way

How did you guys get it so smooth after removing the fins? I've been sanding but its still pretty rough and lots of cuts where the hacksaw went in. Does more layers of paint just fill the gaps?

Alrighty sweet. Just tossing up now wether to go with matt black or a gloss?

Will a matt black with a clear coat on top make it glossy and look good? Or should I go out and get some gloss black? Opinions!?

Sweet ass brother, hope you get them! They look to be in good nik, I never knew that there was a difference between SI & SII grills! I got a pair on my car and they're the ones ur after, look classier than the SI grill.
