hey guys i was just wondering if anybody has removed their vt grille and replaced it with mesh?
I've seen pics of ppl doing it on vx's but just wondering about vt's
cheers

looks like we're onto somethin' here fellas hehe
how do you do it?
If you wanna pay..... Check out this link on eGay
Or its a fair bit of work, but worth it in the end!
No such thing as chrome paint - don't let anyone tell you otherwise it's bulls--t. Real (i.e. metal) chrome is electroplated and expensive.
No i bought a new pair of Exec grilles for about $40 each from Holden Spare Parts, removed the fins (and a lot of skin) then sent them to The Bronzing Studio in Castle Hill (western Sydney). Including postage cost about $160 each. My car is a daily driver so i don't know if i'll leave them on for out of town but as i'm worried about stone chips.
No that's impossible - even if you remove the black paint from a pair of Berlina gilles, and remove the fins (and without scratching the surrounding chrome) you'd still have gaps/blank spots in the chrome where the fins join into the rest of the grille. It'd look silly.
I've got a VT Calais series One and I want to get the VT Calais Series II grilles with the fine fins not the Series 1 that I already have.
My question is, if I buy an exec one, (all black) and try to use paint stripper, will this reveal a chrome plastic underneath?
No place seems to sell the series II Grilles , particularly the Calais ones!
Any help would be appreciated,
Cheers
only berlina and calais grilles come out chrome
"A life lived in fear is a life half lived"
Is there a proper how to on this? Never thought it of! Ive got the standard exec ones and this would look mint!
Hi buddy,
Is this what your after?
vt calais grille pair , chrome no reserve hsv vx vy vz - eBay Grills, Exterior, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 16-Jun-09 19:00:00 AEST)
Cheers.
is the best way to paint with a spray can of black paint, or with a brush and tin? Never painted before :S
Also where did people get the mesh?
mesh - Autobarn $30 for a massive sheet, probly do like 8 + grills with one sheet
Painting - Id use a spray primer and spray colour, then finish with a clear, no brush marks that way
How did you guys get it so smooth after removing the fins? I've been sanding but its still pretty rough and lots of cuts where the hacksaw went in. Does more layers of paint just fill the gaps?
mig.29 yeah seems like those are the sort my m8 spotted em too!
sprocket yes lots sanding i used a airsander belt file and still took awhile
grill pics of progress
make sure its 100% smooth b4 ya paint thats all i can say
ps. if ya make deep cuts use bog or putty filler
Alrighty sweet. Just tossing up now wether to go with matt black or a gloss?
Will a matt black with a clear coat on top make it glossy and look good? Or should I go out and get some gloss black? Opinions!?
Mig.29 I won that auction for the s2 grillesHeaps stoked !
