Hi guys, I'm an old Holden enthusiast but am working on a friend's VT series III Ute (Jan 1999) or at least I assume it's a VT.
Problem is it runs fine when started, nice idle, but hesitates on accell. Eventually it will stall and will require a rest before starting again.
It was run dry so I've changed the fuel filter. Found that the old filter had been put in backwards! It was also absolutely filthy. I assume you would expect to hear the same high pitched pump sound normally heard with sedans and wagons? Not hearing this so am assuming I may have pump problems. My next task is to see the fuel flow. Diags codes just give me a 12 which is normal so am assuming electronics are fine.
Any thoughts from anyone?
My uncle had similar sounding problem with his vs commy. it ran perfectly fine in normal driving conds but once you found a hill or just went to give it some it coughed and splattered. He ended up spending over 1500 on various things and in the end i think it was a cam sens magnet on cylnder 1 so whn under acceleration the car would be just randomly firing as it had no idea of the position of cyl 1. not sure if this helps ..
