    Default Supercharge "lag"

I'm calling it lag because it behaves like a turbo - it just takes a while to kind of wind up from takeoff. It's most noticeable taking off from scratch, but it does "lag" when putting the boot in from cruise.

It's my brother's car - and he's a pretty decent mechanic, but can't figure it out. Any tips on where to look would be appreciated.

It a VT SII factory Charged, it has after market pipes but is otherwise stock. This "lag" behaviour is only recent.

    Cheers

What's involved there? Big or small job? He has taken the car to Holden - all they could say is "not showing any errors". Pretty lame.

I'm assuming assessment of rotors would involve strip down?

    Cheers

Not likely lol. There would be obvious symptoms if this were the case.

How bad is the actual lag? Like how many seconds?

I would do what was already advised and check the boost control solenoid and the vac lines! If you took it to Holden and they said no fault then it wont be the bypass solenoid.

Also check the air flow to the supercharger. To do this just stick your fingers in the air intake while the engine is running then pull the accelerator cord in the bonnet. you should feel the air rush in past your hand immediatly!

perhaps its maybe not the engine? are you refering to the lag when giving it a boot from cruise? mine takes prolly half a second to react when cruisng at 80k's and booting it WOT, using power mode is pretty instant also...

if your car is revving out but it takes a second for the car to actually start accelerating it might be a worn transmission/torque converter... somone else more knowledgeable might be able to enlighten you more on this^^

try fitting a boost gauge so you can tell if the boost is coming on in a 'lag' sense

Thanks to all who have replied.

Booting from cruise or from standstill shows poor response. It's not the transmission. Boost guage sounds worthwhile.

having similar problems. However I do have a boost gauge fitted, and for an upgraded pulley, i can barely get it to 6psi....

Solenoid and vac lines seem to be in tact. Any ideas guys?
