Hey guys. I have been looking around for a vx ss to buy. A mate just got a vt ss with the 5.7litre and i had a drive and thought it went pretty good. It was 100% stock. I have never drove a vx ss so was wondering if there is much difference. The vt is quite abit cheaper and if there isnt much differences apart from look, then i might get a vt.
Is there much difference in power, handling, braking, and interior, or are they pretty much the same? Cheers.
Oh and im talking about the 6sp manual if that makes any difference.

Only different front and rear bars, headlights/taillights and the control-link IRS on the VX (series 2), other than that very minor cosmetic differences only.
If the VT2 is in similar nic & has similar km to the VX (and you don't mind the year model being a bit older) go the VT2 i reckon. You could then spend the money you'd save on mods to your VT2.
I'd go VX. Drive two good examples back to back and you will see the VX is built far better than the VT's (especially the early ones).

That kinda leaves me split still. I have only ever drove a vt ss and compared to my vn, the vt felt heaps good which i expected haha. but have never drove a vx so cant really compare the two. if there was a big difference i would spend the extra few grand for a vx, but if there was only minor differences i would prob rather a vt and spend extra few grand doing it up.

i havent driven an ss version of the vx but instead an s model of my cousins. i myself own a vt S1 s model and have to say his vx is a much nicer drive, although mines done 40 thou more k's i believe a vx of similar k would still have come up tromps. Saying that the vt including mineare still a good drive themselves an depending onhow much differnce the price was i think youd be very happy with a good vt
The VX does look a bit cleaner than the VT2, and naturally a newer model will always have some improvements and feel "better" for most people. It's like myself - right now i'd love a 2002 model VX2 Calais, but i cannot justify the effort to update to something that is almost identical. As a VT owner i don't even know if i'd bother updating to a VY/VZ - if i was getting a loan right now (which i would have to) i'd be getting a VE.
In your case you're going from VN to VT2/VX, so you have to ask yourself is the small difference between VT2 and VX worth the cost? If as you say looks aren't important, and providing you find a VT2 in comparable condition, the answer is no. But if it doesn't feel right to you, go the VX.
VX's had a better rear suspension set up too(in the series 2 anyways). Tyre dont camber out as much to improve tread wear.
Also VX get a better intake manifold than the VT. A lot of VT owners generally by the VX manifolds when they start to mod as they breathe a lot better.
VX SS - Twin 2.5 cat back - MAFLESS Tune - MCAI
i would spend a little extra and get the upgrade..... if u can see yourself in the car for the next 3+ years why not spend a little more now and save it later?
Definitely go the VX SS, and even better if you can get the series 2.. It's pretty much a VT, looks better and Holden have gotten rid of all the little errors the VT had, and it will last much longer.
hey dude. if i was you i would get the vx. apart from looking better, they came with a better manifold, injectors and state of tune. i think only an extra 5kw and 10nm but probably worth it if your gonna do furhter mods to get the farker breathing eg eg zorst. and just another suggestion, if you can go without the manual a berlina or calais might be a better option for a bloke your age due to insurance. id know cause im fresh outta school too.
remember the vt's had the s**t ls1 (gen 3) that got piston slap and a few other problems that got straightend out in the vx go the vx for sure mate
yeah dude the vx ss (s2) is the go better intake manifold (plastic composite) so less heat soak. Factory fixed up engine as mentioned above, plus the rear link, and the better resale value down the track, also doesn't look as dated as the vt (tear drops help in this regard). plus if you ever want to go to monaro tail lights you wont have to purchase a garnish
It all adds up
selling victorian number plates MADVN6,
pm me if interested
would also agree with the vx/whII irs being much better... my old man has a wh series one and his car has bad rear camber wear whereas mine isnt even the slightest bit noticeable... and thats with ultras in the rear
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
1 vote here for vx ss.
the interior in vx series 2 is black compared to previous models having the grey interior. if thats of any importance to you.
people were still getting piston slap up to the vy. Id go the vx too looks a little better then the vt but u can get a vt for under 10 grand these days. The power in the vt and vx would be just about exactly the same (5-10 kw difference) and when modded is exactly the same. Either way the ls1 is the goods, id hold out for a vy if possible though, they look 10 times better then both.
A lot of Vts are going for under 10g now but by the sounds of it, paying a little extra for a vx is the go. Whats the going rate for a vx 6sp these days. I have only seen one for sale, but its sold with mods, so its selling for $17 000 which is too much for me.
I have been looking at vx's for a while, and there are not many 6sps for sale which sucks. I guess i will just have to hold back till one pops up somewhere.
I cant hold off for VY cause i need the car soon. doing a lot of K's for work and the old VN isnt going to last forever since its already got a lot of K's on it.

Ever thought of an SV8? price is similar to a VX SS, sure, its missing a lot of the SS "nice bits" like foglights, more wrap around seats etc, but the important stuff is SS spec. gets you into a newer car too.
if it came down to VT or VX, id have the VX. just seem to be a bit more "refined" and the front bar, blacked out head lights look a lot better.
when i get the ss, one of first mods im doing in taking the spoiler off. looks so sexy without it i think.

Well the VT has a 5 liter V8 in it. The VT series 2 was the first model to introduce the 5.7 liter V8. The VT Series 2 would be very similar to the VX in the way of power, handling ect ect. You might notice a few small differences as obviously with each new model they improve things, add new features and remedy any problems. However, comparing a first series VT to a VX there would be a much bigger difference between the two.
Obviously, the VX would drive and handle better, might have a bit more power, be a bit smoother and be better overall but depends on if you want to spend the extra money. You also need to look at the car itself. You might get a VT Series 2 which runs like a dream and you might get a VX which has been thrashed and abused.
