    Default Cigarette lighter - light

this has been bugging me all day. i have to ask, did a search and there is nothing on it, does the vt cig lighter light up? it has the green ring around it like around the ignition barrel that lights up, but my cig lighter doesn't light up....

Now after trying to work this out i pulled my dash apart to see if just a globe was blown, and what i found was well... nothing. just 2 wires connected to the back of it. But, one thing i did find was a separate wire with a connector on the end of it not plugged into anything..

SO.... are they meant to light up? or is there a differnt one you can get that does... or is that extra cable what plugs into a globe thats just missing?

Here are photos of my cig lighter, and the extra wire i found.

The globe goes into the part in the second picture and then that clips into the part in your first picture.

The plug on the end of the globe holder is about 19mm long, black plastic. Look for another matching (male or female - I'm not too sure) and plug them together. There is a grove one side matches with tongue other side. They will only go together if these match up. WARNING be careful with the wires where they are connected to the globe holder. They break off very easily.

dont think that ring lights up at all in mine it doesnt and my bro has a vx s his doesnt light up either unless they do in the much luxury models, as for the cigerette lighter isnt much of a cigerette lighter more for a charger as if u put a cigi lighter in there would be a bitch to take out as its far deep in there i think holden sell pecial compartment with cigerette lighter and ashtry that goes into that spare door on top of it for those that wish to ave that feature.

well i had a look at 7 vt/vxs today at the wreckers, not a single one had a globe behind them, and they all had that extra wire sitting there with a connector on the end of it.. maybe it was only berlina/calais that lit up?

Only luxury models with the high end BCMs have the globe that lights up behind the adapters. I've tried it on mine and it doesn't light up..not that it matters, at least mine doesn't keep coming apart anymore

OK, check pics below. That should give you an idea. I couldn't find any better pics on such short notice. I'd have to go home to take one if you still want a better one.

aliens got it right theres a metal box that clips into the side where that hole is in the 1st pic this does fall off fairly easy with the slightest bump or knock and that loose wire just plugs into the back of the metal box's tab.

    Hi Guys
Going by my VX manual the lower one in the tray under the hatch is there for accesories
those models fitted with an ashtray instead of a hatch have another one as part of the ashtray that is the actual cigarette lighter, the handbook advises not to use the cig lighter for accessories but to use the lower socket for accessories for some reason probably due to the wattage it draws.

I'm intrigued by this thread. I have a VX Berlina and the cigi lighter doesn't work at all. I don't smoke so I don't really care, but one day my friend needed a light and I said "sure come over to my car" and I couldn't get it to work (I know it ain't rocket-science but it wouldn't get hot). Dunno maybe when they hooked the stereo up they clipped the wire of something. Knowing JBs work I wouldn't be surprised.

is it actually a cig lighter socket? because the one in my vt s is just a power outlet with a plastic cover that sits in it. your not trying to heat up the black plastic cover are you
